Default Best micro crawler in 2018?

It seems like maybe this market might've cooled off a bit? I don't seem to see as many options as there used to be.

I'd just like to find something that's fairly easy to work on, with a decent parts supply and low COG.

What're my options at this point? Right now the Gelande II looks like my best option, but I'm hoping the RCU brain trust might know of more options...

[edit] wow, my sig is from 2006....

Well, I'm old, and have poor near vision (thanks, lasik) and huge hands -- the builds look like torture to me :]

Then maybe you should be looking at 1/10, 1/8, or 1/6 scale crawlers

Well, I had a Losi micro crawler and loved it, i’m Just looking for the modern equivalent. I’ve researched 4 or 5 of them, and haven’t found one yet that doesn’t have a huge Achilles heel, so I was hoping someone knew of one that was as capable as the Losi right out of the box.

I looked at:

Gelande II
Redcat Sumo
Various Orlandoos
ECX Barrage
WPL C24
Carisma MSA-1E
Basher Rocksta

In the end, i’m going with the Rocksta. It seems to have the best torque/speed for crawling right out of the box, the 4-wheel steering is a great bonus, and it’s dirt cheap. You can even buy a metal-geared RTR version now, and full kits for spares are cheap and seem to go on sale for $15 now and then.

The wheels are compatible with the Losis, and if you pick up some Sumo ball ends you can fit Losi rods as well.

We’re lucky to have so many options these days.
