Default Rock Crawler Newb :D

well, not like i have the money at the moment, but for future reference i was curious as to how much money would be needed to make a quality crawler. Ive been watchin the vids and my god...its amazing. It makes me want one so much more. Anyway, what parts would i need, and how much would everything come to? Thanks all.

Well im looking for sorta cheap and im building my own custom crawler. But Clod buster axles are the most popular because you can do so much more than a shaft crawler. I found some Clod Busters on Ebay for like $70-$100 just for the axles and for the esc you would need preferably a Novak Super Rooster you can pick one up for like $75 on ebay or at towerhobbies.com for about $130 i think. Then tires will be around $120. And for you if you don't want to build a chassis then you can pick those up for like $150-$300 at clodparts.com but im kinda new at this so if Im off or wrong about this somebody correct me. My crawler cost me about $300 but for an all factory made parts crawler im guessing about $500-$700. Hope this helped.
list of parts would be:
1. Clod axles
2. Big rims and tires
3. Chassis
4. ESC/battery/radio equiptment/servos
5. linkage system
6. Chevy Duramax body painted red (Not really but Chevy rules) no offense

Crawlers can cost any where from $300-$1000. just depends what you get. If you want a cheaper crawler, go with a 2.2 small scale clod or TLT. For an ESC either get a Super Rooster or a Tekkin Rebel 2. If you go the clod route, you can build your own chassis go for it if not, check out these sites:
V Prime- www.utrcrc.com (1/10 scale chassis or 2.2 scale)
CX-1 - www.rcbackyard.com (1/10 scale)
Gecko2 or Gecko Pro - www.rcguy.com (1/10 scale)
TCS Extreme - www.thecrawlerstore.com (1/10 scale or 2.2 scale)

Here's a site where used clod axles wiyh bearings are $65

Here's a site that sells remand super roosters for $87.50

One of the cheapest, very capable rock crawlers are the TLT-1 Rock Busters. At Ultimate Hobbies you can buy one for $100 with free shipping, but keep in mind that you still need a motor,ESC,batteries and charger, servos, and transmitter and reciever. Here is a list of mods that you can buy to make a top-of-the-line rock crawler:

TLT-1 Rock Buster- $100
Integy 55t lathe motor-$18
ESC-$15-$50
6 cell 3300 stick battery-$40(Max Climber only!)
OR
4-3300 cells-$25
2-High Torque Metal Gear Servos-$20-$50 EACH
Traxxas TQ 3 channel transmitter and reciever-$30
Mini-T or RC18T shocks to replace cavilier(sp?) links-$15-$18 for 4
Staying up till 4:00AM putting the kit together-PRICELESS!!! LOL j/k
There are also many mods that will need to be done that won't cost anything thought such as locking the diffs and extending the links. You can find all that stuff out here:

Hope this helps you with your choice for buying a crawler!!

Thanks bud, i think a mini crawler will be my next project. Im debating wether to make a mini drifter, or a mini crawler. I think i had a better place for crawling though. Thanks again!
