i saw somewhere where sombody made the emax axles into solid axles by welding some pipe at a slight angle for clearance.
then hooked up the axle to frame like it was a solid axle//
looked like a good idea, also had a little extra ground clearance under the diff too!

RE: anybody crawling with IFS??
I made my Tamiya Wild Dagger into a rock crawler and it does pretty good for independant suspension with easy modifications. I locked both the front and rear, made my own shock tower mounts which raised the suspension mount up higher and I switched to oil filled duratrax shocks i think they were 4". And I did some dremeling of the chasis to get maximum suspension travel. The best I ever had was almost 6" of clearance articulating over objects. WIth the added suspension lift I had to raise the steering linkage as well. With two motors, locked diffs and a good speed control to allow slow precise crawling it a great crawler for very cheap. The only major weekness I see is the steering set up. It's very prone to breakage. These pictures are from a couple years ago. And I was still playing around with the spring rates. I'm just now getting interested again into rc rock crawling. I just got a Tamiya tlt!

It's not the best, but it works.
In the second picture it has low pressure tires. No foam, just a bead of silicone sealant to glue the tire. It handles rocks and dirt great, they also don't fill up with water.
