Do i need one of these or can I run my truck with out it.

Depends on your ESC, servo (s), and how many cells you are running.

Any time you have over 9cells or 10volts, you HAVE to have a bec. Most ESC's can regulate your system down to a safe 6-7volts but when you go higher in voltage the Built in BEC on most ESC's will drop your voltage to an unusable level. That is a mathmatical function of the builtin BEC, so a dedicated BEC will do a much better job of regulating power to the reciever and servo.

also, if you are adding another servo, high torque servo, or lights you will either need to add a BEC or run a reciever battery pack onboard.
