Tamiya what are you thinking? CR01 wrangler. Coil springs?
Ok, is anyone else bothered by this? The CR01 wrangler uses a jeep YJ body. Its very well detailed and looks really scale, except one thing... The YJ wrangler was produced between 1984 and 1995, it had square headlights and LEAF SPRINGS.... The CR01 has very prominent coil springs, like jeep wrangler TJ/KJ has (round headlights)...
Tamiya has a leaf sprung platform they could have put this body on and it would have looked right (highlift)....
But they put it on a coil sprung platform.....
Being a huge fame of jeep all my life, I was all excited when I heard they were doing a cr01 jeep, and planned to get one.... But this wrecks it for me. I'm not going to spend my hard earned money on a coil sprung YJ....
I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way... I don't understand how tamiya could have screwed up so badly on such an obvious thing....

I bet people will just buy the body to make custom scale crawlers with the correct components.
I want to say that they (Tamiya Japan) were thinking a "Jeep is a Jeep we'll just make a killing on it because it is what it is" and were not too in depth when it came to how the real ones were made over the course of the years. Who knows.

whats the jeep kj??
also i agree, they should of done the tj body, wouldn't be that much of a difference, all they would of had to do is change the front end of the mold a little bit

I'm not sure how many of you remember this, but Tamiya once made a Jeep bodied version of their cc/xc01 chassis.
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/ite...oduct-id=58141
Comparing the body of the CC/XC jeep to the cr01 jeep, I believe that they use the exact same body. They did the same thing with the high lift hilux; using the same body as the old hilux, but adding extra holes to allow it to fit the high lift chassis' body mounts, As you may know, the cr01 and high lift have about the same wheelbase, which happens to be longer than that of the cc/xc chassis. However, since chassis to body wheelbase difference is less noticeable with "monster" style vehicles, they chose to use the cr01 chassis.

I would rather have coil springs if I had a jeep. Just paint the coils blue and it will resemble the fabtech conversion.

I understand everyones issues, but I don't thing Tamiya was trying to go for a scale truck. They're simply offering a different BODY for their CR-01 platform, which is fair enough

The cc/xc01 was even worse. It had and independent front suspension. No wrangler has ever had and IFS. That bugs me so much.

I'd be pissed off if the jeep body was a PVC-composed affair like the hilux and suchlike. however, it's just polycarbonate. $40 bucks for a body is bugger all.

I'd get one of each body, or maybe two. Because you know in like 5-10 years you'll be able to sell that Wrangler body for double or triple when they aren't making them and everytone think it will never be made again.

Oh boo freakin hoo! They took the original CR01 Chassis and slapped a YJ body on it and you're gonna cry about it? You think the FJ40 Landcruiser that they used on the first CR01 was coil sprung? They never intended the CR01 to be completely scale, it is a semi-scale 2.2 crawler. If you want a coil sprung YJ, buy the body and do what everyone else has done and build it yourself. It's more fun that way anyways.
