Default Stupid Question Regarding Tires/Wheels

Okay guys probably the dumbest noob question in the world:

What is the difference between 2.2" and 1.9" tires/wheels?

I always thought 2.2" or 1.9" is the width of the tread on the tire/wheel...meaning you cannot run a 2.2" tire on 1.9" wheel and vice versa

The reason why I ask is I saw an ad on Ebay of a guy selling an SCX10 on CR-01 wheels (for scale look) with 2.2" Moab tires

I know the SCX10 runs 1.9" wheel/tire setup which really confused me...so are CR-01 wheels 2.2"?

Or are CR-01 wheels 1.9" and he just put on 2.2" tires? So confused!

Maybe it's a typo and he meant 1.9" Moabs on CR-01 wheels?

No the CR is 2.2 size wheels. You can put any rim on any rig if the hub center is the same size (12mm, 14mm...etc.) The difference in wheel size 1.9 or 2.2 is the rim diameter. You can't interchange tires on them, they would be to tight or to loose. Preference comes from how you want rig to look I guess. smaller tire could look more scale depending on the rig. Hope this helps.

Oh okay I get it so it's diameter just as in a 1:1 car/truck setup like 305/65R18 would be 18"

So on a scale rig people running 1.9" would need a 1.9" tire and 1.9" rim right?

Haha being in the tire industry myself it's kind of ironic I don't understand tires in the RC world...

HA! you got it! Yeah I actually have a set of 2.2 tires that are too big for my CR-01 but fit nicely on my TXT. It just has more rubber height.

Well I'm caught up between an SCX10 kit or a CR-01 kit (Bronco body)....not sure which one to get and which one would be the cheapest...building a scaler....I like 2.2 scalers too btw which is why I am considering turning my AX10 into one.

Gotcha! I really like my CR. I do not have any experience with the AX or SC. Seem like cool trucks. Here is my CR, It looks scale. I powder coated metal parts a black crinkle finish (Frame, links...etc.)

For what it's worth, the SCX is gonna be far more capable out on the rocks. The center of gravity is much better on the SCX. It's also more "scale" looking as far as proportions go. The body on the CR, however, is MUCH, MUCH better looking and more detailed. The SCX-10 TR looks good, but it's the RTR, so it's got plastic links and a bunch of junk electronics...

Yeah I am thinking of just getting an SCX10 kit and putting on 2.2" wheel/tire setup with an HPI Jeep Rubicon body...wheel wells should match up right?

I just need help figuring out how to run dual steering servos on it as I have never done this before...
