Tire chains

Well i can feel it in the air. fall is here and that means winter is getting closer. so i took some time to make a set of chains for the honcho. i made a plow for it a while back and thought these would go well with it. finally got the lights wired on the plow. got the chain from the local hardware store and in like an hour extra traction in the snow is what i got.
I put them on the stock ripsaw's because the Swampers and Claws are to big and rub on the plow mount. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2123297 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2123298 I was also thinking about the motor. i just recently had to replace the brushes and clean up the com on the tekin 35. now i got to wondering how i could protect the motor this winter. so i came up with something that may work. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2123299 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2123300 it's a vented sleeve. it go tight up against the motor mount and is closed around the other end. sealed with shoe goo. the tube goes up in the body. i still need to extend the honcho's orange tube but made one for the ascender. it's more of what i'm going for. i'm not running the ascender in the snow but i thought it might dual purpose and stop mud from grinding down the brushes in the tekin 30 in the ascender. i use it as a mud truck. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2123301 I'll just have to watch motor temps in the summer while mudding. i wish the motor shafts where a little longer in the rear so i could mount a small fan on it to circulate the air. that would be cool. |
Lookin good man! Those chains are nice and beefy. I made a set out of jewelry chain for my TL-01 copy, but the jewelry chain rusted and didn't hold up very well. Had to make quite a few repairs last year. lol Those are a much better deal. That motor sleeve is a neat idea, just as long as the vent lets enough heat out, but you'll also have the winter cold temps on your side to help a little. Nice work!

Thanks DieHarder. i'm going to look for some of those small bungee cords to use instead of the chain to hold them in place.
I was thinking that the winter cold would help keep the motors cool too. i'll get to test it in a few months so we will see if it works out. now that i'm inspired with snow related projects i might do some work on the snow blower today. |
I made a lot using this video. I have quite a few extras in sorted lengths and colors. Just let me know.

Cool idea man. yeah if you got a bunch. i could use 8 black all same length. white or yellow hooks.

I like those, good idea, I'll have to make some a bit longer for the 1/6 Jeep.

My stock pile is like Noah's Ark. :D Two of each. I attached a few pics showing the different sizes that I have. There are two of each color and 6 different colors in each size. So that really limits your options. lol If you don't mind color, then I have plenty for you. But I agree on black looking best, might have to put your own together...

Yeah i'll have to make some. thanks for the offer. i gonna use your idea to make them.

Just want to put it out there that the motor sleeve was a bad idea. took the ascender and honcho out for some mudding and in 3 min the honcho was done and in 5 min the ascender was done. i took the sleeves off of both mud and water found it's way in there and ate the brushes up. so what i thought was going to work ended up just a bad idea.

can you take a pick of how you attached the plow?
I've wanted to make a plow, but never could figure out the attach points |

Yeah SyCo_VeNoM i can do that.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2125580 just be careful not to strip the plastic on the bumper mount or you will need longer bolts and lock nuts. |
