A little experiment to see if gun trucks can crawl ;-)

Mike Flea 12-19-2015 08:50 AM

WOW !!, very nice build you have there AE. How many hours do you have into it as it sits? The detail is excellent !!

Thank you RustedRC and Mike Flea. I've been working on it every weekend since October.

Where did you get the sound card from, or is it a home made recording? And is the smoke generator from a model railroad engine?

RustedRC 01-04-2016 08:58 AM

Very cool AELock. i'm going to be following this build. amazing detail man.
i think the square fuel tank fits the look of the rig. adds a bit more of that military feel.

Sorry I was not able to reply earlier Mike Flea, I'm using an Ibu2 Pro board I borrowed from my rc tank. I just replaced the sound set with free sound effects I found on Youtube.
The smoke unit is a Super Smoker V2 from an awesome ebay seller chopperflyboy.

Thank you RustedRC, I'm really glad you like it. I didn't even know that square thing is the fuel tank to be honest, I thought the drum from the other side is. :D

RustedRC 01-06-2016 10:51 AM

It might not be a fuel tank. i could be like a battery box or some thing total different all together. i just like the look it has.

Mike Flea 01-06-2016 06:18 PM

Ya, on that particular rig, I'd say the round tank is the fuel, and the rectangular one on the right side is the battery box. Definitely a cool build, will be waiting to see how you paint it, all O.D. Green, camo, or a civilian color, either way it'll still be a great build!

I'm out of camouflage paint set so I guess this is going be a retired M915 Gun truck ;)

RustedRC 01-10-2016 04:35 PM

The bed and smoke stack look amazing. the paint looks good to me. i like the gray around the edges.

Mike Flea 01-10-2016 04:58 PM

Looking good, but the yellow's not doing it for me, lol. Maybe when you weather it, it will be there. Of course, you have gray, make it a Navy gun truck.

Thank you RustedRC. The truck becomes right side heavy if I place the pipe where it really should be, due to additional pipes and it being on the far right side, so I had to make the exhaust pipe come out from the back.

I get what you mean Mike Flea, i'ts a little soft lol. I want to start clean before I go too heavy with the weathering. My D90 ended up having too much ;)

My spare tire holder / counter weight:

The rusty D90, in my eyes, looks real, and scale, but that's just me. The last photo of the truck looks perfect, but the lighting has a lot to do with the presentation.

As a shadow, it's mysterious, intriguing. Any chance we can see the finished product in daylight?

Yeah put some light on all that work man. is the skull the gear shift knob? that would be sweet. makes me think of the newest mad max that came out.

Mike Flea 01-16-2016 10:17 AM

That is cool, did you make the skull out of Sculpy clay?

AELock 01-17-2016 12:55 PM

Yes it is the gear shift knob but I'm thinking of changing it. Isn't it a little dark for a happy yellow truck? lol
Yes I made it out of Sculpey clay.

Mike Flea 01-18-2016 05:16 PM

Again, the details are spot on!, Where did you get, or did you make the nomenclature tags?

RustedRC 01-19-2016 09:36 PM

I agree with mike that's as close to real as it gets man. wow 3 on the door. i didn't see that until i viewed the pic. very cool.
How are you doing the bolts on the seat and door stop?

AELock 01-21-2016 01:58 AM

5 Attachment(s)
So that's what it's called no wonder I had a hard time looking for pictures online, I was searching using the wrong keywords :D. I printed the tags using pictures from Google.

The bolts are made of sliced .050" styrene round rod.

Thanks!
