ECX Barrage BTD (Build To Drive) version

I an an old fart, new to r/c cars. I started building the kit, I see NOTHING in the very good manual about what grease, or how much to use.. Any ideas? Thanks

If it's like any other kit out there, using the blue marine grease, like for swimming pool parts, is a good choice. I use it in all my crawlers & SCT's. I use a small modelers paint brush to smear a light coat on the transmission and diff gears.

Yep I agree with mike a light coat. to much grease can hinder performance. marine grease is the best to use (IMO). it sticks well to the gears, waterproof and can be used on electronics because it's dielectric. (doesn't conduct electricity).

Hello cameracamel,

I'm curious. How do you like that kit? Are you happy with it? I am considering it as a trial into crawling. Thanks.

You can't go wrong with marine grease, but since I have a ton of bearing grease in the garage for my 1:1 projects, I just use that and I've never had a problem. What type of grease you use is a lot less important than just making sure you use some!

Some people prefer to completely fill their axles & transmissions with grease. It doesn't lubricate any better, but by filling the whole housing, it helps keep water out better. Since I don't plan on submarining my crawlers on a regular basis, I don't bother.

Just don't add to much. it can cause resistance but a good amount will do. I agree some grease is better than none.

Thanks! I will use the marine grease. I DO like the ready to drive version as I can paint it any color I choose. I read that this version has a little better parts like a few aluminum parts thar are plastic in the RTR version. Again, thanks foe all your input.
