Looking for a crawler
I have an old tamiya ford ranger xlt but its 2wd.It's in great shape but it doesn't go over big stuff. I'am looking for a realistic looking truck thats 4wd that can crawl like a jeep.Any suggestions?

Hi The Newbie...
They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery... so thanks... I guess. Mind you, I'd appreciate it if you used appropriate language when in the act of impersonating me. Cheers, JK www.mudcow.com |
RE: Looking for a crawler
wow that truck is amazing how did u build it and how long did it take how much did u spend on it

RE: Looking for a crawler
Thanks.
Most of the history of the buildup is on my website. Been into the RC crawling for over 4 years now. $$$ spent. Not as much as you might think. Mainly the motors, ESC, servos and controller are the big $$$ items. The rest is 100% scratch built so the only real cost was time and elbow-grease. To build-up a top-notch competition crawler (and I am not talking a top $$$ bling-mobile) it would cost you upwards of US$ 1,000 - 1,500. For a regular 2ch (no independant 4WS) it would be a fair bit cheaper. And yes it is a lot of fun, yes they are very capable and yes a lot of nitro loving guys have been converted to electric after catching the electric RC crawler bug. Cheers, JK |
RE: Looking for a crawler
clodbuster always seem to work extremely well as crawlers. thanks to that calculator, i found i got an 1875 score on a 30 degree ramp

RE: Looking for a crawler
That's a lot. You must have quite a short wheelbase.
If you are genuinely interested in RC crawlers there are a few forums on the net that are dedicated to the sport. www.outerlimits4x4.com -> RC Tech forum www.rccrawler.com www.clodtalk.com www.rcmt.net And there are more. |
RE: Looking for a crawler
Get a Twin Force. I got one about a month and a half ago and it's great. It's an excellent crawler but at the same time it's fun all around. The only thing I dislike is it's jumping ability. It jumps nice and level but has a hard time soaking up big landings. But if you want a crawler without having to do many modifications then it's great. Plus it does amazing wheelies all the time.

RE: Looking for a crawler
With respect for you JordanT, what you have described is what we would call a basher, not a crawler. But hey, as long as you are having fun with it right! ;)

RE: Looking for a crawler
ive seen a few failed attempts at making a crawler out fo a twin force.they were better off stock
