DIG FEATURE

Anyone here have a dig feature on their crawler?

If so, post up some pics!

A "DIG" feature is the ability to lock out the rear axle while the front is still engaged.

This allows your crawler to do pivot type turns similar to a tracker vehicle.

He he, dez rccrawler has alot more advanced crawling guys. I doubt you'll find more that 1 if that on here and not many will understand the term. Anyways, I've been looking at dig and I think I'd rather have 4ws. Crawlers are getting so crammed these days with dig and 4ws and winches and all these linkages etc. I like to stay with just plain bashewr setup with 13.5" wheelbase and 4ws. No rules at home:D

I compete regularly and rear steer on a 2.2 is illegal, hence the dig feature.

Got to work within the rules and be able to live in the gray area![>:]

I'll put my comp 2.2 up against your cheater rig and I'll bet you a dollar I'll out crawl it!:)

and how do you accomplish this ability (dig)

As soon as the last pieces arrive, I'll post some pics!

I have no doubt you would outcrawl me lol. You're older, have years more experience(I've been in crawling for about 4 months:D)have owned more crawlers, have competed alot, and have better rigs on general.

I checked out the rear dig on a buddies truck, I think it would be cool to get that feature on a smaller truck. I wonder what that would take...

What kind of crawler do you own?

It's a VMG...

Sorry, this mod won't work on a shafty!:(

I beg to differ! The one I saw was on a TLT. A servo moved a female section of driveshaft up and down, connecting and reconnecting two male-ended driveshafts. At the same time, it slipped a rod into the spokes of a rear wheel and mechanically locked it from spinning. It works.

RE: DIG FEATURE

I know that you can make a dig set up for a shafty, but the set up for MY crawler won't work on a shafty.

Just wait for the pics.

Cool, I see. You must b a clod setup then, is it just a receiver controlled relay that kills power to the rear motor?

dezfan 09-05-2006 11:55 PM

RE: DIG FEATURE

Something very similar to that.

I understand what your talking about now and yeah it sounds pretty simple.

After reading about the DIG set up here I have a better idea what you are asking/saying. I think I will have to work this into my new truck to see if it will work, as my new truck will be a shafty.

Soon, DIG will be a necessity for competition, 4WS in the Super division and 2WD in the 2.2s just won't be enough!

This is mine on a TLT.

I used miniwheeler on ORCRC's idea and modified it to my liking. Once the shaft is disconnected it also locks the rear wheels.

I forgot about this post![X(] Sorry!

Here are the pics. I used a momentary switch that is on until it is tripped. I think it is for a refrigerator.

It is tripped by the servo and cuts power to the rear motor. Tested it last weekend at Cosmo and Capen and it never failed once.

Cool. Nice fabrication there. If you ever feel the need to refine the system, someone out there is producing an actual relay switch that takes a signal from the receiver. It'd be perfect for what you did there. But if it ain't broke...!
