The Shadow Project

NOT JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX, THIS CONCEPT DESTROYS THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF THE BOX !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I've been running my Pimp Cane Clod for about 4 months now and I thought I would try another TLT based crawler for next year to see how it compares to my current comp set up.

The CMRCRC season just wrapped up and the 07 season is just around the corner so I figured I had better get started.

While cruising the ORCRC site and I came across this awesome chassis design and contacted the builder (Bluemeanie) who had several for sale.

The BMVII arrived a few days later and I then placed an order for a TLT kit from RCP and waited for it.

A short time later it arrived and I started taking stock on what else I needed to complete this build.

Ordered up a few other items (like my new brushless Revolver from Holmes Hobbies) and set them aside for this build.

First off is the BMVII chassis. This chassis is so far out side the box that it is insane.

Minimalist in design, extremely light and small in size, needs no shocks, links, or link mounts, and is extremly affordable even before you figure in the cost savings of the unneeded items.

After I assembled my axles, shaved them, installed a set of Slinky Sam's aluminum axle ends, and a set of R2J's knuckles, and the new HPI wheels w/ a fresh set of Mashers, the axles were ready to go.

I started to work on the Stealth tranny I'm using on this build (like I would use a Pede ) and installed it on the BMVII's tranny plate. It's built for the Pede so it's more than ample for the Stealth's tiny footprint.

Assemble was a breeze, I countersunk the holes on the chassis so that the 3mm stainless hardware would set flush and 8 bolts later. (4 in front - 4 in the rear) the chassis and axles were assembled.

Yeah it was that easy!

Talk about light, the chassis, tranny, and motor combined weigh in at 10 oz's!

Just for reference, a lathe motor alone weighs just over 6 oz's!

The CG on this chassis will be unmatched!

The chassis, tranny, motor, tires, wheels and servo weighed in at 3 pounds 1 oz. and the heaviest thing above the top of the tires w/ be the body!

I'm still waiting for my Mamba Max and Spektrum DX3 to arrive and I haven't settled on on a body yet (come on Pro Line, re-release the CJ8 ) and I have a few other little things to take care of.

But it's a start, can't wait to get it on the rocks!

Decided to call this one the Shadow Project and go for a menacing all black theme and stray away from my trademark silver w/ the barbed wire.

Below are a few pics of the start of my build, enjoy and eat your hearts out!

WOW!!![sm=omg_smile.gif][sm=omg_smile.gif]

that's just cool.

curious how strong those center rods are. they look thin. are they gonna handle the tranny sitting on them during the bouncing and thrashing?

nice find though, can't wiat to see the progress.

Dez, that is awesome!

I'm curious as to the length of the drivelines. Is the wheelbase similar to a stock TLT? Do you have to extend the shafts?

Anyway, that is a great setup, and I look forward to your progress.

RE: The Shadow Project

The rails will hold up fine, the tranny and motor onlt weigh 5 oz's.

The W/B is 12.5 inches axle center to axle center . The drive shafts are cut down (around an inch) Max shafts.

Cool. Thanks for the details, and keep on snapping those pictures as the project progresses.

Wow that's extremely interesting....

Went to work on my wedge design (to get the rear axle yoke up and out of the way) and made some good progress on it.

Need to finish modding and fabricating it, clean it up, and then I'll take some pics.

Also started on my 07 comp season "2.2" tires!

They will be insane! I predict they will w/o a doubt the badest tires in the entire realm of crawling and crawlers all across the land will beg me to tell them what they are and were I got them.[>:]:D

Couple of quick pics, the battery died before I could take any more, I'll head to Wally World tomorrow and get some more and then take more pics.

Enjoy!

what kind of rods are those??? cause if its the same material i used it'll bend and stay bent after a good tumble... but other than that it'll work... keep us posted on the test run[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

dezfan 01-01-2007 01:34 PM

RE: The Shadow Project

Picked mine up at the local unobtainium composite titanium store.

It was right next to the flux capacitors!;)

Can't say just yet.

No I'm not selling them and apparently I'm not allowed to tell you who is as the MODS deleted yet another entry.

Refer to this PM for the reason I can't offer you any help. Sorry!

The message you posted in RC Rock Crawlin' ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tt.asp?forumid=277 ),
titled: " RE: The Shadow Project" has been deleted.

Reason: Commercial advertising in the forums. I've removed this because this is nothing more than a commercial post in the forums. This is not allowed by the RCU Community Rules.

Ken

Is this site here to help people w/ questions on crawling or only to further the interest of those who advertise on it.

WHAT A LAME SORRY EXCUSE TO DELETE A POST!

not the first time they've deleted your posts is it? man this sh@$ would just piss me off. i am surprised you still bother trying to come here. must be frustrating to try and help people only to be hacked at the knees.

funny they delete your post with a simple link in it and yet they let people ask the same question repeatedly about the stupidest things

I stay hear to try and steer people in the right direction, help them w/ problems, and provide needed info.

Lord knows RCU doesn't offer much in the way of crawler info.

To delete a post because a product is on another site is BS. I guess that is why so many of the RCU crawlers end up on the "other" board and never venture back to this site.

To bad, w/ the size of RCU, it could have a great crawling forum if the post Nazis would chill!

RE: The Shadow Project

Any vids of it on the rocks?

Looks like it will be a great crawler, but it seems like it will have a low breakover point.

dezfan 01-05-2007 05:46 PM

RE: The Shadow Project

The center chassis clearance at the moment is just over 3 inches and w/ an upcoming mod it will be closer to 4.

Not to worried about it.

No video, (don't own a video camera yet) but I'll have pics this weekend.

Rc EnthuSiasTs 01-05-2007 07:29 PM

RE: The Shadow Project

wow, this is a super chassis, i did not realize it has that much center ground clearance.
That is just as much as my sw2.
Sweet, i am really starting to like this chassis.

well it did seem like you were promoting this chassis and the "OTHER SITE" and if the mods here thought you were breaking the rules so be it... btw im sure if i went to the "OTHER SITE" and promoting my stuff and then mentioning some "OTHER SITE" im sure it would be deleted... rules are rules... just my 2 cents

Thing it, it isn't my stuff! Someone asked were to get the chassis.

I gave them a link.

Rules may be rules, but the rules here are a JOKE!

If we can't freely exchange information, what exactly is the point?

The "other site" is loaded w/ RC CRAWLER based info. This forum is very limited in the CRAWLER based info.

I was trying to help out a fellow crawler which is my first and only priority!

I could give a flip about this site! The only reason I even come to this site is to help fellow crawlers.

The mods here have made it clear that helping fellow crawlers and exchanging information is not a priority and that promotion of the advertisers in the only reason this site exist.

So that's my 2 cents!
