Lock the Diff???
Okay I understand that to make both tires pull on each TLT axle you must lock the diffs.
What I don't understand is when you do this, how does it effect the trucks turning? You know if the diffs are locked, both wheels turn together, and in a turn it makes the truck want to push or go forward, and not turn very well. Just a question. Thanks DC |
RE: Lock the Diff???
You're right.... locking both front and rear diffs kills a tight turn radius. two easy options are to leave the front diff open (not good for real crawling) or go with 4 wheel steering (not comp legal). Other than that you can get aluminum axle "C"s, trim the Knuckles, and there are some CVD's coming out soon. Those 3 things would give you back the lost radius and then some. At slow speed, and on the rocks, the reduced turning radius is not too bad, you just have to plan your moves a little more carefully.

You can also add a *DIG* set up![>:]
That will dramatically improve your turning radius! This one is a model of the D.U.D. system. (Dezfan.Unholy.Dig) http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p...t=DSCF1950.flv |

Okay I hate to sound like a newby, but really I have to ask.
What is DIG? And what are axle C's ?? Thanks DC |

The picture should explain axle C's to you.... A DIG allows you to lock the axle(s) you can have front dig, rear dig, or both. It is controlled with a servo connected to the driveline. I have yet to do one so I don't know how to as of yet, but have seen many use this set-up and it works well. Dezfan may be able to help with the setup part.

RE: Lock the Diff???
dig can unlock your rear driveline and make it lock up, like a spoke in the rear wheels, this helps steep declines, like skidding the back tire down a hill, or on steep inclines were the truck wants to flip over, if you disconnect the rear driveline, it only pulls with the front tires, thus making it hard to flip the truck over backwards with only front wheels pulling.

RE: Lock the Diff???
Thanks, thats the best answer so far.
I saw a video yesterday of a CLOD setup to do this and it was amazing to see it crawl nearly straight up dragging the back wheels without flipping over. DC |
RE: Lock the Diff???
