RE: Quick question...

A dig disconnects and/or locks one of the driveshafts, which is useful for turning and climbing, among other things. A front dig is the most useful, it disconnects and/or locks the rear driveshaft. When climbing a really steep section, you can disconnect the rear driveshaft so that the front tires full the truck up the hill and the rear freewheels, if the truck were in 4x4, the rear tires would have most of the weight, and therefore traction.. so on the way up[ the hill the front tires will be slipping, while the rear tires dig in, which loads the rear suspension and unloads the front, the exact opposite of what you want. When that happens you will probably roll over backward. With the rear disconnected however, the front tires are free to drag the rear end up the hill, since the front tires have the most traction, they will load the front suspension, while the rear stays unloaded, you make it up the hill...

Its also useful for turning if you can lock the rear driveshaft. You lock the rear tires, so the front tires have to drag them around the corner, the result is your turning radius is cut in half....
