Default Finished Pea Pod

I just finished building a Pea Pod sailboat that I started 20+ years ago. I started on this forum in March looking for the old magazine article that had the building information. With the help of others on this forum, I was sent not only the article but got a copy of the magazine (Nov. 1982). A special thanks to Dick Lemke who copied all the information plus some "inspirational" photos of his Pea Pod, on a CD, and sent it to me.

Her name is "Bloopie" (blue pea, get it?). She falls within the AMYA 36/600 Traditional class, 36"l x 15"w x 72"h. Weighs in right at 10lbs. The Pea Pod is a stitch and glue construction, made from 1/8" door skin plywood. I hope to have her in the water this weekend, floating will be good, sailing even better.

Here's some photos:

I don't know what happened with all the HTML stuff, sorry!

HEY OLGUY, NICE LOOKING BOAT. i BUILT ONE ALONG WITH MY BROTHER AND ANOTHER GUY ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO. wHAT A HOOT! We would bring them down to a local pond and race them. we would always be changing the sails to get more speed Our sail were made from Tivek house wrapping. When we got bored we would start ramming one another. It was a lot of fun and very relaxing. I'm into rc aircraft now but I still have fond memories.

Hey Olguy,
Your boat looks great, the name Bloopie is pure inspiration, lets see some pics of her in the water.

Just joined the group.

I have recently become the proud owner of a peapod sail boat template but unfortuanately have lost the instructions on its assembly. I have read you post and was wondering if I could obtain the assembly instuctions.

Thank-you in advance.

New to the boat world....

Jim

Jim,
The 'olguy' sometimes 'forgets' what he's doing, where he's been, and why he was there. If he doesn't get back to you I'll poke at him a little (live in same town). Hate to say it, but he really does know what he's doing... well, sometimes.

Jim,
Didn't doubt for a minute that you'd hear from the 'olguy' . Was just a chance to 'poke' at him a little, you know? Got to remember about the 'poking back' next winter, the email I got is still 'warming' the house, saves on heating bills. Address his emails to his 'better half', she does the memory work, keeps him honest...well, almost. (That ought to take care of next weeks heating bills!).

Ah, come on 'Doc. It ain't that bad (is it?)! But you are right about the "better half", if anyone can keep me honest (if that's at all possible) it would be her.

I'm glad I could help with your heating bill, with the cost of gas now-a-days, you should have saved enough to buy your next model (a land yacht???).

Ok, 'poke' me I'm done.

...land yacht? Maybe, still collecting data, as they say. Got this mast and sail from another boat so the hard part is already done. Finding wheels and an axle, neighbor kid has this little wagon...hmmm. May paint it all blue too.

thanks mate much appreciated its funny people on the sail forum seem more willing to help out with plans than on the gas or nitro forums.since ive changed over to sail ive found lots of free plans to download etc.i got my plans for the luna rosa off the net for free and i downsized her slightly and she was a pleasure to build and only got her first outing on wednsday and she sailed beutifully ,if anyones interested i just recently attached a small video of her here[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LrO7JIhK0s[/link]

Me too! Unique and beautiful boat. Hull shape is such you can use plastic sheets to make it easy I guess. Love to build one if I can get the plans. Email sent to olguy. [8D]

Hey Mart, I can't seem to be able to post my photos of my Bloopie, on the water. I do have a few on my build page:

http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/Mod...ll/Bloopie.htm

While there check out the rest of the "Model Boat Mayhem" site, It's super!

Thanks Mart, for posting my photos, my Image Shack account is messed up, or maybe, just maybe, I might have forgot how to use it. No, that can't be, it must be messed up. As far as the way she handles, she's been great from the first time she got wet. The first time out, the breeze was about 5mph without any adjustments, it was a dream. In heavier winds she handles just as well. The Pea Pod' a no brainer! (just what I need)

I thought there was a link back to Model Boat Mayhem's home page on my Bloopie page. Martin's URL is: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/index.htm

Model Boat Mayhem is the world's most visited model boat site. You can spend days exploring it, Martin has done a great job, he also updates it, at least once a week. My Bloopie page is in the "Your Models" section, under "Ron Hill's Rubber Duck and a Bloopie", if anyone's interested.

Thanks again for the help, Mart.

Prasad, Glad you liked my Ducky.
