What're we sailing?
I sail a little bit of everything, but I don't own a multihull yet.....

The club is looking at building teensy J-boats of some kind - maybe Earl B's 1 metre, the Canterbury J or a 60" own-design. We have weed issues - fin keel boats are a drag. (Get it? drag? blob of weeds on your fin? Heh)
I'm a member of Paderewski Model Yacht Club #101 in Plainville, CT. We have sort of centered on EC12's and Fairwinds, though there's probably more than a dozen types of boats among the skippers, including a 50-ish year old square-rigger that one of the members built as a teen. He's converting it to R/C.....

I think we've got like half a dozen Fairwinds in the club. They're fun to race against each other and have no obvious shortcomings. Build it to the light end of the range then add weight 'till it sails like you want it to, though it'll sail light.

I have an International One-Meter (aka F5E) and a Sunrise 24.
The Sunrise is a ready to run 24. It is nicely setup with a JR radio and gear, and it has a nice fiberglass hull. I bought it from another modeler. It had a minor crack in the hull, just below the deck, but I was able to repair it without much trouble.

I've managed to aquire an EC-12 as my first boat. I bought it before finding out they don't race these much around here anymore.
A one of a kind 36-600 that needed to be completely redone that just recently managed to win it's first race finally,I got 5th in a 12 boat regatta with it.
A Victor Model Products Soling One meter, only one in the club. No fun to sail as it's slow compared to the other one metre boats.
A castoff all carbon fiber Marblehead that has been lightning fast since it first touched water, only my inexperience prevented me from winning the 1st Regatta I sailed it in. Had 3 race wins, 5 2nds of which 3 were by less than a boat length. I ended up w/ a 2nd in the regatta.
I love to sail when we're racing other than that sailing is not as exciting as my helis and planes.

EC12's rule! At least in weedy ponds. I sailed my dad's Laser yesterday for a couple hours in 10-15 mph breezes. 2 tacks - clear weeds. Still fun, though.

I had a Victgor Soling. Melted the keel during construction so I put a custom fin on and sailed that way till I sold it.
Now I have a carbon fiber Marblehead with Carr sails that I take out now and then. Really needs a new paint job.....

Canesugar - is that the Cox Tradewind? The foam one? We've found out that it's faster than our Fairwinds, and is probably faster than a Soling 1-meter, but the guy sailing the Soling concentrates better than the Tradewind guy 
. The Tradwind took only a little upgrading to hold together...stronger sheet anchors, etc.....

Ive got a GRAUPNER SAPHIRE ,,.
and the TAMIYA AROUND THE WORLD sloops
I dont race or anything like that but they are both fun to sail
and look great on the water .........

Rob, here is what I know about the Tradewind. My cousin gave it to me 6 or 7 years back as a birthday present. Just recently, the hull paint (red) began to chip, so I brought the boat to the LHS to get some paint. The boat guy there said that I should use something like an epoxy based paint because the hull is made of foam. He also said that they stopped making them because the factory burned down. I think that he said it was made by Kyosho, but I am not shure. My brother has a Fairwind, and if it is blowing over 8 kts, I am faster due to more lead in the keel.
Does anyone know where I can find some sails and a gooseneck for a Vortex 60? I think that the genoa is around 130%. Thanks

You might check with either Carr Sails or Windjammin, both will cut custom sails. Rdd may already have dimensions on the Vortex.

I think the guy sailing the Tradewind at our club has the original finish from the factory. It's kind of a cheese-o boat, but has a nice winch and the boat is fast! You could try painting it with latex (house paint). I remember using Krylon on a plane wing years ago and the paint ate the foam up pretty good.

Fairwind 900 #125. I've had two Soling 1Ms and loved 'em both. Broke the main boom on one and set it aside for a few months because of airplane stuff. Due to inadequate waterproofing the interior wood stuff dried out. Keel came off ruining the hull.

Hi all,
I'm currently building a replica (ish) of the Team Philips Catamaran to the Mini40/Formula 48 rules. Its 120cm long by 85cm wide (48x33 inches) with twin wing masts.
Have the hulls and one beam finished and have almost finished the other beam and the two masts.
Wont be racing it, just built it for something to do over the winter and for sailing when I'm at regattas for my big boat (a 16ft Taipan 4.9)
