RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
Playing around with my F48/mini40 tris for a while I get the urge to have something smaller and more easy to transport.
I got some ideas from my friends and decided to start a build.
From now on I will document my building progress here for my fellow multihullers, if the finished tri is a success I will do proper drawings for fellow builders to build their own RT65.
These are the first ideas
floats
main hull

Good Luck with it.
Sorry if I my sound like a broken record - can you tell me where to find the complete model plans for this so I can share them via my blog?
(Honestly I just try to create a good free collection for all RC Sailboat interested.)
Thanks,
B.

Interesting shape. looks a lot like a scaled down Nightmare design. Scaling down model trimarans below the mini 40 size has been done a number of times. However anything less than 36" long tends to lack the performance and they become difficult to sail fast effectively. There has been quite a bit of info shared on this in many past forums. Just my thoughts.

An uncompleted three ft. carbon Trimaran - only the fibreglass version was completed. - It sailed great.
http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php?t=68981
Just look at the details for further simplifications.
There is absolutely no reason, why a smaller Tri shouldn´t work properly, if it is designed correctly!
And here is the link the Peter Gernerts (WIESELs) RG65 Racingtrimaran - including buildingreport!
http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php?t=100558
Ready-to-sail-weight:380 gramms.!!!
Just look at the pics.
And here are the sailing pics of the completed boat:

By the way - this is entirely Phanchitas Project! -
I´m staying out of it - just sharing all informations I know of.

Cool build very light. Probably really good for those very light air days we can get here in the summer. It's got me thinking too. Maybe when I've finished my second carbon fiber Nightmare tri, I might try building a smaller "mini 36" and I can use the rig off my USOM. Then again I expect to have too much fun sailing my new boats to think about a summer build project.

@TBK
yeah, I know small tris are said to be not sailing well - but that's the challenge.
I decided to build the trimaran hulls from styrofoam cut by hot wire. Yesterday evening I started to cut the templates for the floats from hard board .
Today I will try to do the main hull templates.

RE: RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
Last night I cut the foam sections for the main hull from a block of 65mm styrofoam. The foam block is first cut to pieces little bit larger than the templates. The pieces are thewn marked with centerline and CWL marks. The hard board templates are aligned to the markings and attached to these styrofoam chunks blocks with double sided tape - the one that glues the sails as well. Then the sections are cut out with the hot wire.
Be careful when cutting the bow section - because of the large difference in size you have to move the wire at the larger section faster than at the small one.
Today I will cut out the sections for the floats

The float sections are cut from foam already.
Tonight I will glue the sections together using some styrofoam glue

RE: RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
Yesterday I have glued the sections for mainhull and floats together.
I used some styrofoam glue .
I will glass the hulls today with two layers of 125g/sqm cloth, tomorrow I will attach the support tubes for the beams and glass the decks.

RE: RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
I have glassed the hulls of floats with two layers of glass and epoxy. To achieve a smooth surface I have covered the glassed parts with cling film.
The hull is being glassed too, pics to come soon.

Thanks TBK, can't wait to sail it like always....
I have glued the carbon support tubes for the 6mm carbon beams in and glassed the float decks.
The main hull is being glassed. Pics come soon.

Meanwhile I have glued the support tubes for the beams into the main hull and have glassed the deck.
Tonight I will prepare the foils and the keel box.

RE: RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
Last night I have been working on the foils. I took 2 pieces of 2mm balsa wood sandwiched with a carbon cloth core and epoxy the day before.
From this balsa sandwich board I cut the lenghts for the foils (keel & rudder) and sanded them to an airfoil shape.
After shaping the foils I have cut them to exact lenght and glued the rudder shaft to the rudder and a bolt to lock the keel to the main hull into the keel part. Then I waterproofed the foils by painting them with epoxy.
Today I will build the keelbox form epoxy and glass cloth & attach it to the main hull.

RE: RT65 or just another 65M trimaran
Cut the 6mm carbon tubes for thew beams to lenght and test fit.
Working on the keelbox now. I wrapped the keel foil with several layers of cling film, waxed it, laid two layers of 200g/sqm glass cloth wetted with epoxy on a flat surface around the fin and covered it with peel ply.
I have fixed the layup with some small clamps and put aside.
Tomorrow morning when the resin is dried I will glue the keel box in place.

Yesterday I have cut the hole for the centerboard and the rudder shaft and glued the keelbox and the rudder tube into place. Then I test fitted the appendages.
Today I will install the support tube for my RG65 swing rig I intend to use and cut the openings for RC components[8D]

I have cut the openings for the rc components and glued the mast tube for my swing rig into place. The ply boards to attach the servos are already in place.
Next step will be to install rc components and rig the Tri.

Thanks for providing your plans. I have copied a set and may end up getting one built as one of my upcoming projects. Good luck with your kit production setup.

Dear Siri,
perfect plans - definitely!
This is the trimaran-Concept reduced to the MAX.
Everything smaller would be "Reductio ad absurdum" - "reduced to a point where it gets absurd" - like Footy-Multihulls -...-
(only my personal point of view)
The only thing I´m (wer´re)missing is the rigg plan now.

Hi Sirit,
thanks for providing the plans. Were these generated in Autocad? if so, any chance of getting the dwg files? My 7 year old daughter wants me to build her a small tri. Mine is just too big for her too handle.
thanks
