Rigging line

what do you guys use for rigging line? The stuff that came in my kit looks like glorified fishing line.

What kit is it? If it's a Kyosho or Victor the line they supply is fine. Other than that you can get Spectra line from Into the Wind kite makers. It comes in many weights form 25# up. It will not stretch.

I also use KITE string, but for the "outer" mast, I use inox metal string (used in fishing)

It probably IS fishing line and that's what most people use. Don't forget most of the stuff is mighty strong. Personally I have a roll of 80lb test fishing line that I use...and most people I know use. The only thing any stronger you could use would be steel wire and it's not nearly as easy to work with.

The line with your kit is probably quite adequate.

RE: Rigging line

I use line called Laserpro on my SeaWinds... it's fishing line--I think 80 or 90lb test, and it's braided which gives it an almost scale look to it. I bought it from the Boat Store, which is at the [link=http://www.seawindrc.com]SeaWind Resource Center[/link]. It's probably overkill though, as you're probably not talking about that much force being exerted even in the windiest of conditions. Actually the kit line supplied with the SW isn't too bad, other than it kinks real easy and stays kinked, which I don't like.

Kite stores are a good source for line... or, there's a place called [link=http://www.gbmy.com]Great Basin Model Yachts[/link] out of Salt Lake City that sells all kinds of stuff for RC sailboats--they sell rigging line as well that works well.

OOps... it would appear that Augie (the guy who runs the SRC) has removed the "Boat Store" option from the site. I would say Great Basin or any kite store would have what you need.

RE: Rigging line

FYI....nylon is weak to UV and streches

schmism 05-12-2005 08:41 AM

RE: Rigging line

ya while "figureing out" what it was i did the "strech test" ie grab a lenght between the hands and pull.... ooooohhhhhh strechy!

so i dont know if i can "pre-strech" it before i use it to rig with.... or just to get something diffrent from the get go.

RE: Rigging line

Laser Pro is pre stretched
