Default 2010 US Scale Masters Photos

I spent most of Saturday visiting with friends and taking a few pictures at last weekends US Scale Masters Championship (held near Rose Wood, IN) at what one first class, no, world class flying site. A perfect fit for the world class fliers and aircraft in attendance. I wasn't able to get pictures of everything flying Saturday, but I got a lot of them. Here's a few of the better ones (photos that its).

(I'll ID plane, pilot and people the best I can. Please feel free to point out any errors).

Earl Dever, Jr, New Albany, IN - Clipped Wing Cub First Place in Open

Adam Gelbart, Los Angeles, CA -Spitfire MK XIV

Dick Hansen , Portland, OR- Albatros DVA

Dale Arvin- CD

Part of the noon time show Saturday. I'm much more accustomed to photographing slow moving WWI stuff.

More noon showtime.

Fantastic F-15 was also part of the noon time demo. Note the slow moving object I managed to get in the frame as well.

Back to the competitors.....

William Zimmerman, Evansville, IN- P-47D Thunderbolt

Tim Lovett, Hurst, TX- A6M5 Zero

Roy Vaillancourt Farmingville, NY Typhon

David Johnson, Champaign, IL - Albatros Dva. Winner in Expert

Steve Eagle, Walbash, IN- Stearman

Larry Botsford , Elizabeth City, NC Lublin- R-XIIID

Unusual looking plane. One that I wasn't familiar with. I like it!

Robert Bush, Westerville, OH - F-100 Supersabre (See, I'm not very good at the fast stuff).

John Boyko, Franklin, OH- Pitts Special. John took second in Expert.

Ron Peterka, Escondido, CA -Stinson SR-9

Dave Johnson (L) and (I'm guessing) Bernie Boland

Peter Hill, Chatham, Ontario- Spacewalker II

Dennis Crooks & Dave Semeraro (builder) Rockville, IN - Albatros Dva. First place Team Scale.

David Wigley, Kigs Park, NY - Westland Wyvern

Jeremy Arvin, Jeffersonville, IN- B-25 Third Place in Advanced

Bernie Boland, Phoenix, AZ Albatros DV- First Place Advanced

Mike Wartman, Gray, TN - Fokker EIV Eindecker. Mike's first year flying competition I believe. He place 4th in Advanced

Eduardo D. Esteves, Belo Horizonte, HG Brazil - Fairchild PT-19. @nd Plave in Advanced.

Bob Patton, Saint Joseph, IL - Scottish Av. Bulldog

Lee Rice, Ed Newman Keller, TX - Fleseler Fi 156U "Storch" 3rd Place in Team Scale

Michael Peck, Phoenix, AZ - P-51D Mustang

Billy Thompson, Boggstown, IN - Fokker DVII

I think perhaps one of my favorite shots that day.

I dunno, horizontal or vertical? Which do you prefer here?

Doug Crumle, Wichita, KS- Piper PA-18 Super Cub

Bernie Boland, David Johnson Phoenix, AZ - Fokker D VII 2nd Place in Team

Dorin Luck , Gary Allen Henderson, KY - Bucker Jungmann

Mike Barbee, Delaware, OH Raytheon - Beechcraft T-34-C

Thanks for looking!

Oh yes, Mike Wartman told his girlfriend Cindy Kern that he'd do a cartwheel if he static-ed better than a 90 with his Eindecker. He got a 91. Congrats Mike!
I think I'd give him about a 60 here though.

Thanks Jacque!
I use a Nikon D80 and (mostly) a Tamron SP AF 200-500f f/5.6-6.3 LD (IF) lens here.

Love the one of you catching the plane dropping the torpedo. Great timing or great luck, but either way fantastic shot!

Thanks rwright142! It was mostly luck. That's what happens when you take over 1400 images in a day. Wouldn't have probabaly gotten it in the good ol' film days.

Mike,
Great pictures, the masters was my first major scale contest and I wonder if you could send me the full size file of the Pitts special chasing my half red Druine Turbulent ( G-APTZ ).
