Ok sports fans ....Sorry for the delay.
Barry and I were approached by Jamie @ AZ models about a week ago.....

We have struck a deal with Jamie on building his half scale DH2. He wants to start selling half scale planes and parts.

So Barry and I promised Jamie we would be the fastest build and the first to get it in the air before anybody.
Jamie promised us to give us the plans (4 gigantic pages) 41 production pages, 80 megs of documents on CD, all the lazer cut parts for the plane, wings, struts, guns and ammo cans, radial engine, etc, etc .....By Jan. 31!

Please refrain all flaming on this forum...Period! We only have to wait a VERY SHORT time to see a hero or a zero....

I am very excited with what I have seen so far. Lets all keep a positive attitude and hope this comes out to be one kick ass plane!

Those turnbuckles looks sweet. But then at 1/2 scale there just aren't any excuses any more! As for my 1/4 scale model, I was thinking of doing it as a rubber-powered free-flight.

Don, I did indeed do the DH-2 plans, but sadly I did not complete them. There were several engineering details I hadn't completed, but apparently AZM pushed through them and finished the plans.

Good luck to you all with a most aggressive project. Watching with interest.

There is a nice set of DH-2 plans from Model Airplane News. I think they are pretty well detailed too. I was impressed. I think it was 1/4 or smaller scale.

Doc, I think they probably did, although I've not seen the finished set.

Designing this model was a fun project. The outline, structure, and airfoil are scale. Many aircraft from this era featured lots of routed wood parts. I wanted to simulate this effect by using a core piece, and laminating thin, laser cut parts on both sides which had the various holes cut out. The resulting 'sandwich' looked pretty convincing. This technique was used throughout for the longerons, uprights, spars, etc. My thinking was perhaps a builder might want to display the model uncovered.

I hope to build one someday. (Bet my "back burner" is bigger than yours..)

I guess even 1:1 replicas can be "non-scale" in hundreds of ways. My own view (unsurprising) is that if one is going to bother to build big, the only reason is to build scale. Big is, to my mind, not automatically better.

IMHO...... that view of yours .....seems to me that you have never flown anything 44%-60%....LOL
