Lozenge Colors in Pantone Anyone?
Don't mean to kill a dead horse and re-open the endless debate about lozenge colors....
Seeing as how Methuen color books are very rare and out of print...I'm thinking the best solution is to compare the colors to the Pantone color quide and print my own material.
Does anybody out there have resonably close Pantone values I could use?
I will be workng on Fokker DVII ( Fokker production had only 4 colors lozenge ) also working on Roland D.VIa 5 colors needed.
Thanks

Check out my thread on lozenge (buried a few pages back now). There are links to threads on theaerodrome.com. A couple have very good representations of the colours. I suggest printing these out and using them as your references.
Many have asked on various forums for newer references but the 'old gaurd' will not or cannot provide them. I am under the assumption that if you are having someone printing your fabric/tissue there are better ways to define your needs (colour, hue saturation, etc. I don't know these as I am not a comercial printer) than we have at our disposal. Flying Fox (see his Benz build thread) has done some analysis on this as well.
I have looked into having a comercial sign printer print out lozenge on solartex and was told it is do-able. How much experimentation is required to get it right is the next question. The shop I approached did wide format colour signs for outdoor (read UV stabalized, or as good as possible) work. If you see the various cars, trucks etc with the full colour images they are mostly printed film. I think they said the colours were good for a year or two in that application. Since our planes rarely see that much sun time I think they would be lifetime for our application.

In my dim memory, I seem to recall having a set of Pantone color sample things that opened up somewhat like a fan. The only problem I encountered was that Pantone was "printers" ink and their colors not available in paint.

Thanks All for the tips and references to the Aerodrome Forum, I have found some useful info there and am still reading through threads.
I still haven't heard back from Dan San Abboott about his thoughts.
Tom Polapink mentions that Munsell sells individual sheets of color samples at $27 a page !! yikes !...I have a Pantone color fan bookand can mix my own colors ( thats one of my jobs).
I will probly print out LAB color references and start there mixing colors to match...thanks again for your useful input[8D]

Madman..BINGO !!
Jim Kiger has the 5 color lozenge chips...he is one of the world's leading experts...will be good enough for competition documentation I'm sure.
Now I can progress with making my own lozenge covering printed on Slortex !!
Thansk for thetip
