Frickin' messing with the forum again
Change is NOT always good. Yesterday, I noticed that the photos were displaying differently. When you click on the photo it opens as a new window (instead of in the Java applet as before). It's sort of like how it works on RC Groups (but worse).
Now we're seeing these annoying blue stripes between posts on thread. These are NOT good changes! [:@]

Here here, I agree completely!!!!
Change for change sake is no good change at all. The only thing that can start to justify any of it is that pictures have not been displaying correctly for a long time. But sometimes the cure is as bad or worse than the problem it was trying to correct.

I once watched an awesome web forum (fine scale modellers) loose over half their members (the better half) when a new forum format was rolled out. If it ain't broke dont fix it. Believe me!

Here's a little test to see how the photos are displaying today. *** Yeah, it's WEIRD and it SUCKS! The photo starts to expand as with the java applet, then sort of jumps into a new window (which replaces the old forum window). This is awful.

I thought it was just my computer
Oh well, I am not getting excited about it, just roll with it, forum still works.

Looks like they got rid of the blue bands. That's good. I think they may actually be trying to resolve the photo issue. We'll see.

No. The blue bands are there for me. At least in some threads (including this one).
At any rate, this situation resolves for me the question of where I'll do my next build thread: Not here.
BTW, here's the way the photo display works for me (on my MacBook). If I just click on a thumbnail, it opens as a new page, replacing the forum page. But if I hold the command key as I click, it opens in the old java applet that lets me cycle through the photos with the arrow keys. I suppose for those who are using the forum with a two-button mouse, this might be useful. I could learn to deal with it. What I am not willing to do however is trust that the management of RCU will not doing something like they did only just last year that wiped out dozens (hundreds?) of pages of photos.
So I'll be documenting the Strutter build on RCSB.

Seriously a page format bothers you that much? Easiest thing to do for your next build would be to buy and host your own forum then .Instead of using this free site. I mean maybe this is a temporary issue anyway .

I don't think there's anything wrong with asking "Why was this changed?" or "What was wrong with the previous setup?"
If there's a reason, great. If somebody was just messing with the code, is it okay to ask what they were trying to accomplish?
On my computer, pictures and pages load slowly, and with the old setup I could just close the photo & be back where I was. Now I have to wait for the page to reload. Maybe not inconvenient for others. For me, it means I view the thumbnail and skip the large photo.
Just my 2¢ worth

Dave,
On a windows machine hold "Ctrl" and click on the thumbnail, and the photo opens as before.

Same on the Mac (as I mentioned above).
It's not really the small format changes that put me off. The RCU Scale Forum (and that's the only part I use) will continue to be a great place to come and socialize and to ask scale questions. That's what it's best at. I may be over-reacting based on last year's disaster which gutted a dozen or more pages of my Albatros CI build. I've been debating for weeks now where I should put the Strutter build (and had narrowed it down to either here or RCSB)...this just sort of pushed me the direction I was leaning anyway.
As far as this being a "free" forum, that's true as far as it goes. But without US, THE SCALE BUILDERS, it would be nothing.

I like the scale builds but i doubt this site would fall off the face of the earth without them .There are lots of other interests on these forums. If you do a build somewhere else link it here id like to check it out.

I use Safari on my MacBook. I dont see the bands. Use to have to use Mozilla to be able to upload pictures, but it has not been like that for a while. No need for changes on the airplane side; leave it for the RC car guys.

Delete your browsing history.. you can keep cookies, then close and restart browser.. seems to be working for most to get back to older format.

But in this case it has been, for quite a while. I guess the ad revenue is going to support someone's fifth vacation home somewhere... []
