Hi guys
Has anyone ever got his hands on the Sea Fury? I mean, there is literally nothing in the web about this bird!

Hi all.
I have now the Seafury in house. I am still waiting for the ESM electrical retracts Generation 3.
The engine I will install; OS FT-300 twin is approx 10 mm too wide so I have to split the cowling on the underside and wide it out to fit the engine
Pictures will come

My Feedback: (10)

I've been looking at the Sea Fury. I have a DLE 55 and some Hitech HS-5645MG servos setting around but VQ Models want $135.00 to ship it. Troybuilt wants $132.98 plus another $14.99 to ship the retracts seperate. That is crazy. Can't find anyone close to me selling this plane.

Some progress for my Seafury. Retracts from Sierra installed. OS FT-300 engine installed.
Warning; the "U" connecting the two elevator parts is so wide that it is not stiff enough. I have lost a plane earlier due to flutter so my solution was to use 2 servos for the elevator with carbon tube and steel links. A 100 % stiff solution[img][/img]

I guys, i still have not got hold of my kit yet. the uk importer now say march... we will see. In any case im still undecided on an engine. I know that 50cc is too big and i hate petrol anyway. so a Laser 300v glow engine is the most likely. I am usure how the Laser comes up performance wise vs the os 300. What rpm do you get on a 20x8? the model looks great as well. i look forward to a video of it flying

The OS FT-300 give about 4HP/ 7000rpm. I will use a 3 blade carbon prop 18x10
I *think the flying weight will be approx 9,3 kg. According to ESM the flying weight is 8,1 kg. That is impossible.
According to the manual the CG is 145mm from leading edge. I beleive this is too far back
Do anyone have any info about correct CG ??

I am suprised the os 300 is that powerful, i really doubt it will give 4hp but if you can supply some rpm figures on a 20x8 prop that would be handy.
As i do not have my kit yet i cant say if i think the c/g position is good or bad. all i know is that the c/g for my esm La7 was spot on so i have no reason to doubt them. what makes you think it is wrong? As for the weight i think they are a little optomistic. i was expecting it to be about 19lbs or about 8.6kg.

I have not started the engine yet. I only have my figures from OS´s homepage:

I have also the old version of the ESM Seafury 71" wingspan and if I compare the % CG on this model compared the bigger version I think it should be about 130mm from leading edge

Ihave a friend who has the early esm sea fury and if i recall the model is not so accurate in scale as this one. Its possible that fact, and the change of scale and dimensions has made the difference. I plan to balance slightly nose heavy using the suggested c/g position as i do with all of my models.
As for the 300 the bore/stroke is almost identical to the Laser 300v that i might use in mine. A direct performance comparison would be very interesting

I had to add approx 1 kg of lead to ballance the model for a CG of 130mm from leading edge centre section
Total weight of the plane is approx 10.8 kg

I am very surprised the model is that heavy. 10.8kg works out to almost 24lbs and I find that very heavy for a model of this size. I still question your choice of moving the c/g 15mm forward and suspect that the extra weight In the nose could be what is putting your model over weight. As I say, my ESM La7 needed no nose weight at all and flys perfectly. The nose on the seafury is longer than the La7 and so I would assume the manual to be pretty close on the c/g measurement. Can you please take a photo showing the model built up and the two c/g positions marked. if the model can be viewed from the wing tip that would be good.

According to post 37 on this thread;
[link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10996173/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm[/link]
the model flies well with cg of 130mm. I will start here and if possible take out som lead after maiden
I am not worried about the weight. The wing is huge and compared to other buddies flying this size of warbirds the weight is OK
I will post a photo tonight (I am at work now)

that's interesting what people are saying about the c/g. my La7 was spot on using the manual. I do however use very small elevator throws. In any event, I have the P39 from esm and the wing on that is also huge, as the sea fury is about the same size I don't have any worries about it not flying well at 24lbs, its just that it would be better at 20. My La7 is only 18 and the P39 19. In any case, I really look forward to hearing how it goes and some more photos.

Looking at the manual I downloaded from ESM it is not clear if the 145mm is measured from the leading edge of the wing or the leading edge of the radiators. I think if 145 was measured back from the leading edge of the dummy radiator then it would be almost the same as your 130mm position. When I eventually get my model I will have a look at it. Either way, it should balance at approx 1/3 the chord. So I will shoot for that!

My kit has at last arrived and for the most part I am very happy. There are a few problems however. The wing joiners are hopeless and I broke one just undoing the tape holding them together. The quality of the wood is very poor and unlike any ESM models I have had in the past. The flaps need a bit of the work to fit properly and the ailerons do not match the curvature of the wing so will need to be stripped, re profiled and re covered. these are not big problems at all and they are the reason I always order ESM models without any paint. It also seems that I am missing all of my pushrods for the ailerons and flaps which is annoying. I will have to chat to the importer again

However once this is done they do fly very well and they look great! i am flying mine with the same cog as in the picture i.e 130mm from the leading edge of the center section which equates to about 145mm from the front of the radiators, it flys very well at this but needs down elevator trim. Mine weighs 24lb's although you would not know by the ways it lands, the wing is obviously a good design aided by flaps that are so big that you can hear the motor working when they are deployed.
Good luck with yours, it is worth the effort and i am tempted to buy another and build it better with the benefit of hindsight.
