Paul and Lee and Cincinnati Aeromodelers,
You guys ran a great event. I was very happy to be allowed to take part. Already starting the count down for 2013 ODP.
See everybody at Hoosier Dawn Patrol next month.

Wow! What a weekend!
I had sooo much fun! The people and the planes this year were top notch! I want to give a very brief shout out to all the Dawn Patrollers that made our 5th year spectacular!
I was very humbled by the amount of people that traveled long distances to come to this event.
There is going to be a ton of pictures and stories to follow..........(i have over 600 pics and a dozen good stories)
For all of those that know my very good friend Sam Parfitt .......You will appreciate who is first in this "chow line!"

Hey Paul, I forgot to take your Futaba 2.4 Ghz receiver out of my Triplane when I left yesterday. Should I mail it to you or bring it to the Hoosier Dawn Patrol?
Thanks for the Tripe trouble-shooting help as well as the E.R Shannanigans. You guys can make ANYTHING fun!
BTW, mydoctor decided to give me 10 more stitches in the other finger this morning, I guess the compression bandage was a bit lacking. I think Dr. Doogie just wanted to get us out ofhis E.R. ASAP.
In closing: 20 x 8 Xoar Scimitar props on a G-38 are just awesome!!!!!!

My first ODP. Wow, just wow... The aeroplanes were phenomenal, everyone going the extra mile to add the scale details.
Camping out, catching the first flights at dawn- doesn't get better than that!
If you're on the fence about whether to fly your first event, don't be. The folks at ODP have really thought of everything, you will have the time of your life.
Special thanks to Paul, Michelle, Lori, Lee, Gary, Mike, and Ed A. , See you next year. Jim in PA.
P.S. Photo is Paul's Sopwith Camel bashed from a Balsa Pup kit with added Mick Reeves features.

I went to the photo store for about 2 hrs to get photos for various people that do not have electronic devices (I know!....who still looks at photos on PAPER anymore!) [:'(]
Anyway I am going to make some funny captions on my digital photos and they should start posting tonight...........

Without further delay; here is the "Greg Emerick Award" trophy proudly displayed on the family hearth!!
This was a really nice surprise to recieve such an "honor"! I had no earthly idea this was coming... I figured folks would have forgotten about it but I guess I really raised the bar with this crash... Or bent it.
For those who don't know, at last year's Hoosier Dawn Patrol; I was doing touch & go's with my Pup & got a little too mentally relaxed. On that final fateful pass, I had drifted too close to the Italian flag pole & by the time I realized it; it was too late to just bank & yank (I was too low for that). I tried a rudder turn but it wasn't in time. My left wing slammed into the flag pole. The crash took out my left wing panels & seriously damaged the center section strut connections, banged up the cowl, & disintegrated the prop. I worked a bunch on the repairs & had her flying again in time for the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous in Dayton a few weeks later. Thanks again to Art & Billy for helping me with those repairs! Without their assistance, it would have taken longer & not been as good!
I got a ton of signatures on THE flag pole itself & I've clear coated it to preserve them. I'll mount that on the wall in my shop & post a photo once that's done.
This year's ODP was another great event, full of good times & great airplanes. There were even a few folks who tried to get their name in the running to be next recipient of our new travelling crash trophy! Thanks to the crew who put on the hog roast & kept the grill going for the whole event, that's a tough job, but it's greatly appreciated!
best regards,
Greg

Finally a brief pause in between marathon travel sessions this week for me - I have one whole day where I'm not driving multiple hundreds of miles!!
Should have some pictures posted this evening - I'll have more later in the week as I cull through them (and a whole buncha video I shot as well).
Helen and I had a great weekend down at ODP'12 - it's always fun catching up with friends new and old, and I'm glad the weather also (mostly) cooperated.
Greg, the GE Traveling Award looks good sitting on your mantle - but somehow I suspect you'll be willing to part with it in a year (I cannot get over all the apparent volunteers trying their best to qualify for it - but I'm not sure that they appreciate all the hard work it takes to both dig a massive hole for yourself AND figure out how to get back out - although some do have the hole-digging part down pat, however!!!).
Great time all,
Helen and Lee McD

This is toooo easy.....Art's wing warping comes from working in a very damp basement.
Seriously. Art's last name is Shelton. I would just PM him here...I know he will be glad to help you out.

Paul and crew, another great event, the guys from Louisville,Kentucky had a most enjoyable time again. One of these days I'll have to show Blakeman how to take off without flying into the trees on a low powered plane or better yet just tell him to take off the other direction. [:@] He is looking for another DVII so if anyone has one for sale look him up. Our Bluegrass Dawn Patrol fly in is coming up in a couple of weeks. Aug. 11th & 12th ( Sat/Sun ) but anyone can come in on Friday to set up and fly if they wish to. I will attach ( I HOPE ) a flyer for the event.

Once again, a first class event. Kudos to all involved! The Cincinnati Aeromdelers are fantastic hosts, and I can't thank you enough for your gracious hospitality and get well "pass".
Here are a few photos from Saturday:

Gary Denzler had a couple of great flights with his magnificent 1/2 scale (?) Demoiselle.

1/2 scale Nieuport 11 was pretty damn cool.

Jim Suchy's 1/3 SSWD3 was spectacular.

Jim's SSWD3 once more

Sam Parfitt's 1/3 Nieuport 17. I just love the Italian markings. I hope it can be resurrected Sam.

And perhaps my personal favorite, this wonderful 1/3 Sopwith Triplane from Andy Marone.

And of course the famous "Pole Dancing" 1/3 Pup of Greg Emerick.
More later. Enjoy!

Thanks for the pictures, Mike!
I hope you will post more.
FYI, The 1/2 scale N-17 was by Keith Zimmerly from New Jersey, and the 1/3 scale Sopwith Triplane was by Andy Marone who came all the way from Long Island, NY with his family, who love coming because it's like summer camp.
