Default Bob Dively Super Stearman

I have acquired one of these kit's. Although it look's to be dead on in scale it also look's as though it could get heavy quickly in a scale build. The purchase includes the kit, cowl and pant's, custom to the kit Robart oleo gear, CB Associates 6-1/2" wheels, CB hinging hardware, dummy radial, and an aluminum spinner. Has anyone here built one of these and have any opinion of the final outcome in regards to the kit.
And Yes, if I build it, it will be a scale build.

Hi, Ace. I've got one built up. It weighs in at + 40 lbs. This kit is built like a battleship.I've got a A&M Sachs 5.8 C.I. gasser for power. Because of the huge wing area, it should fly good. My advice is to build it up and power it with at least 100 cc twin or equivelant, I'll post pics, if you are interested. Regards, John R.

Absolutely, I would like to see some pics. I did not mention it above but a DLE 111 was part of the package.

The main drawback, is the one piece 8 ft. wings. It's a huge royal barge of the skies. Mine's got smoke, It should be pretty impressive , doing a huge loop. Pics attached, (I hope) John R.

Very nice John, you have any build pics? I would like to make the top wing a two piece with the center permanent. We'll see.

Hi, Robert. I don't have build pics. One of the things that I learned from this airplane, is don't build big bi-planes with 1 piece wings. They are difficult to transport and take longer to put together, at the flying field. Now I modify, to make the wing panels removable as an assembly.I have to agree - make the center sections permanent and outer wing panels removable. It's not hard to do. I'll upload pics, if I can find them. John R.

Oh, believe me, I know all about the big wing all day assembly one's. I built a dolly for my latest venture so as to not have to disassemble. Just roll it in and out (see pic), the next one that just has to be a one piece wing will be done the same.

I saw one of these, years ago. As stated above, the thing is built like a tank.

With your experience, shaving weight in the proper places should pose no problems. It shouldn't be difficult to make the top wing in two pieces, with a permanently mounted center section.

You'll like this model, Robert. I know that you will do it justice.
