Default Show off your winter projects

Hey all:

I've been working on this for about 4 months now and finally got around to taking some pictures. Most of my friends and family don't share the RC disease and hence don't care too much about my toys. I figured you guys might be interested and have some interesting projects of your own you're looking for an excuse to post.

This is a Corben Baby Ace D in approximately 1/5 scale. It was originally featured in Model Airplane News back in the mid 80's as a construction article. I bought the plans and never built it. Well, I finally got to it! This is completely scratch built, I stripped my own wood and formed the fiberglass cowl from a homemade male/female plug. I won't claim to be a scale master, but it's built straight and coming along nicely. Power is from a OS 40 Surpass and control is the typical 4 channel set-up.

Well,

I have been building this for the past 3 1/2 months. Meister Scale FW190, 102.5" span, FPE 4.2 for power. Looking forward to completing it soon. There's a thread in the warbirds section if you are interested in following the complete build. Whos Beaver kit is that? Looks like a nice kit.

Thanks for giving another opportunity to post some photos. (You'll like these, Paul.)

Paul Reese and I are building a precision scale, (1/6th) Raytheon Super King Air B200, with ALL the bells and whistles. I'm building the plugs, then Paul will give them his immaculate surface treatment, including panel lines, rivets, hatches, etc.. Then I'll make molds. The entire airplane will be molded, including the wings and tail, so detail will all be there before you even start assembling it.

Fuselage plugs are pretty far along, and I'm working on the wings, nacelles, and cowlings right now. Here's an image of the CAD model, and a couple of actual construction photos. This will be the best scale project I've ever been involved in, and it's gonna be a beauty. Updates are at http://www.nextcraft.com/b200_construction01.html

Here's my winter project. It's the GTM low cost Fokker D8 kit. Everything is framed up now and ready to do some serous sanding and shaping. The wing gets sheeted and will cover the fuse. in four color lozenge. Also got some of GTM's mini kits to give it a little more detail. It will be powered by a Saito 170 3cyl. radial. Hopeing to be able to start covering by the end of the month and ready to fly this spring.

A lot of interesting projects. I am in the midst of my own design for a 1/2 scale Smith Miniplane. A small home built bipe for those who are not familiar. 102" span, target weight is 45 pounds with a 3W 150 for power.

My winter project is repairing a scratch built plane. Sorry no pics but the plane has a 58 inch winspan. I uses a modded ultra stik wing and fokker DR 1 triplane tail group. Also it uses a completely scratchbuilt fuse with a super piper cowl. The Fuse needs new LITE PLY sides, a firewall, and behind the canopy there is about a 6 inch section to be completely rebuilt. Also I am building a 60 inch wing for my new Superstar. The wing will feature very little dehidral, will be stronger than stock and will be of "bolt on" type. Also it will be completely designed and built by me(thats what worrys me lol)!

Bates 85" SBD-5 Dauntless. Just over a year in it now, couple months to go. Winter focus has been on cockpit and final details...

Great pictures, folks...

Excuse the poor quality photos, but here's my indoor GeeBee Z, just completed and waiting for the winds to drop below 50 mph for outdoor test flights.

This is my project Waco and it is more experiment than project.

dacron dress lining, painted with latex from wallyworld.

Stihl line trimmer engine from local farm equipment dealer.

overall cheap skate project but it worked well and flies great.
