Hi Guys - well we tested the heck out of the AirTractor's Slurry Bomber capabilities last weekend at our clubs Giant Scale Fun Fly.

Worked like a dream. We only made two drops on Saturday. The very first one was dropped to fast and it just looked like someone turned their smoke on. The second drop was at a crawl with flaps and it really looked nice. We did however drop to the West of the pits with just a slight West breeze. So we then had the purdiest smelling rc field in Ohio. My slurry comes in these neat little plastic bottles about 3x4x10" and has Baby Powder marked on the side Found out my hopper capacity in the wing is 1/3rd of a bottle at a time.

On Sunday, there was an unfortunate crash of a Cub when it got into an unrecoverable spin. Since we were up at the same time, the pilot made a mayday call and asked if we could drop our load of slurry on his location for fire suppression

Well we did, and it looked way cool.

This link to the [link=http://www.flagcityrc.com/cgi-bin/album.pl?album=Photo%20Album%20;photo_height=500]Flying Circuits RC Club[/link] website will take you directly to the picture album all of the Giant Scale pics are in. There are a series of photos of the drop as well a video of it. The video does work if you try it, but it's rather large and takes awhile to load.

With the hopper built into the wing ribs and completely seperate from the fuselage, I never experienced any powder inside after I broke it down for the day.

Just thought you guys might enjoy the happy ending to my project.

Scott (RCFLYGUY-26) did most of the piloting for me becuase I was still to nervous - Thanks Scott!!!

Nice pic Gputt. I tried to take some pictures of my agwagon dusting but my 11 year old brother was taking the pictures and they didn't come out to good. I decided to break my duster down and rebuild it a little different. If it works out better I will post some picture of how I did it.

hey looks great GPutt!!!!!!!!! i finally flew my sig/duster a few weeks ago and it flew great. i took some great photos of some low slow passes and when i took the film to walgreens to get a photo CD they destroyed my film and then had the nerve to be rude to me afterward. im taking the water tank out of mine though because it leaks to much and i have constructed a new tank that should work better. ill post some pics as soon as i can or if walgreens doesnt get to them first. If you want to kit bash a good model go for a giant scale Piper Cub. These were used in the very early days of top dressing in New Zealand and were very popular. They more or less replaced the old original and they were tiger moths.

I have a H9 about half built with a 3W24 and the hopper and loading hatch going in at present.

I have posted a photo sent to me from a friend in NZ that shows some very interesting aircraft all used for aerial topdressing.

In an earlier post I seen rference to Kiwi Ag pilots but rest assured there are old pilots and bold pilots in that industry but no old bold pilots.

I've alway's admired watching the crop duster in action. I've been in the RC Airplane hobby off and on for years, I built an Agwagon from the RC Modeler plans about 6 years ago and have never flown it. I put a Saito 56 four stroke in it which I think will do just fine but before I take it out I have to get that RC bug which I just can't seem to get. If anyone has ever built and flown the RC Modeler plans I would like to hear how it flew.

AT401B, where did you get your crop duster from? It looks great. Did you scratch build it or did you bash a kit? What is the wingspan?

That is awsome 401. I talked to duane habets about his airtractor which also has a 92" wingspan. He is selling plans and he made fiberglass molds so he can sell it as a kit. He is asking around $475 for the kit which will include a fiberglass fuselage, canopy and cowling, and balsa sheeted foam core wings. He sells it in different assortments so it is best to call him. I think I am going to order his plans. You should think about making your plans available too. I you definitely be interested.

I really haven't thought much about trying to sell plans or anything.I seem to stay busy with first one thing then another so I just don't have the time.I'll leave that to folks like Mr. Habets and Mr. Calvert.

It has a 72" wingspan, ASP 65 four stroke but I think I'm going to put a 91 four stroke on it because it is a little heavy when the hopper is full. This was my first attempt at building from plans so I was kind of learning as I went along. But my eyes are now set on getting one of Duane Habets airtractors. The agwagon was just a test bed for the hopper. I will probably sell it once I buy the airtractor.

Hi Guys - Stew and AT401, you both have Great Looking planes. TwoStroker, this is late, sorry, but I really like the Pawnee, the tootsie roll drop was way cool. I see somebody's name and a certain Thrush in todays AMA mag I received.

The way this thread is going we could almost have our own little Ag Forum

Later guys, I've got a fire to go put out

Bigstew and GPutt33
How do you do it! Those are some good dusting runs! I loaded up with 3# of baking soda on Saturday at a local giant scale event and couldn't get a trail like you have!? Secrets please, reveal your secrets...please. I have tried very small openings, built a spreader to fan it out, so far nothing compared to your dusting runs.

GPutt33,
Thanks. And to honest the picture does it no justice. The candy duster really spreads it out good. During that show I used about 3# of candy and it was spread over a 200' length of runway. It came out at the rate you see in the picture for a good 10-15 seconds. Just this last week at the event mentioned above I got greedy and loaded the bin full with 6#, too full. The plane flew fine with the load but the candy got hung up inside and had to be shaken out with the up and down elevator. It took two full passes to empty with a terrible herky jerky elevator action. But nonetheless the kids were happy. I will stick to less load from now on to make the delivery more authentic.

Great Thread going here Guys!

Tim
