112 Squadron RAF
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get some info on the marking of 112 Squadron when they were flying Vampires. I've done all the usual searches and found conflicting information on the following:
Was the interior of the "mouth" black or red?
The fins were green, did that carry over to the tailplane
Were the individual aircraft codes black or green
Were there other fin colors other than green
If anyone can direct me to a site that has photo(s) of 112 Squadron Vampires I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jon

AHa!! you are in luck... I found a pic and a sideview in Warpaint series #27 Vampire (spendy, but good)
The interior of the mouth is red and the tailplane is silver, not green. The aircraft codes are black.Shoot me an email, and I will send you a scan of the photo.
What size Vamp are you building?

Hi, I heard about your search for a Squadron 112 Vampire, I also noted the reference to Warpaint Series 27. There also is a drawing in Profile Publications #48, pg. 11. It is a bit different, the mouth and front flash are different shapes. So who is right ? At least PP is cheaper.
Unfortunately I am without a scanner at this time.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone who responded. I had previously found the sites and info that you have suggested. Unfortunately, the info is conflicting. The Vampire in the Warpaint book is a restored one and the markings may be suspect. The IMPS is usually pretty good, so I may go with that one. I'll have to dig out my Profile files, although they are not known for accuracy:some are OK, many are not. I'm kinda surprised how difficult it has been to get a picture or two of the Vampire as 112 Squadron is fairly well know, being the originator of the "shark mouth " motif. Still have some time to go, Ill keep looking.
Thanks again for responding.
Regards,
Jon
