'Correct' green for P-51 Cockpit
Hi guys,
Does anyone know the 'correct' shade of green for the P-51 cockpits? The colour I'm after is as in the attached pic...
RAL, FS or Humbrol paint number will do
Thanks,
Mark

Old zinc-chromate coating. Not so much a color as an anti-corrsion coating. We still use it, but the color varies due to age, wear and tear, and how much crap ends up on it. It's anywhere from bright yellow to faintly greenish depending on which type is applied. Try Testors model paints - there are a couple that look "right".
Edit: Actually that looks like olive drab in the picture, again it varies.
Try FS 34087, FS 34151

says "ANA 611" is the actual color, and http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorse...r.asp?fs=34151 is a pretty close match.

Thanks for the backup Fred!!! Both outstanding sites!!
Isn't it amazing how some things never really change? We use (all most) the same coatings and paints that they did pre WWII. I guess "if it aint broke, don't fix it" applies here. Our cockpits still have a lot of that interior green(of one sort or another) in 'em, and pull a panel - it usually has Z.C. coating on the backside. (talking about '73 model C-130s).
