Ziroli small 70" P-47
Hello all..
I am thinking of building the small Ziroli P-47 as my first warbird and plan built project. For those who have built one.. what weight did yours come out after glassing, paint, retracts, details etc? Is she pretty easy to fly?

They build heavy for their size, usually in the 15-17 pound range. Don't let it scare you though, they fly just fine at that weight. If you do a search you will probably find quite a bit of info on this airplane here at RCU. Regards, Chad Veich.

I built my small Ziroli P-47 and used a G-38 Gas Engine, Robart Retracts, Flaps, glassed and sprayed with latex house paint. I tried to keep the weight down, but still ended up at 16.5 pounds. It flies very well at this weight. Lands like a dream. I like to bring it in for a two wheel landing.

Hi Guys,
I'm glad I saw this post on the weight of this plane, I was planing on using a Sachs 2.0 (35cc)engine on Ignition. I also have a BME 44 (2.7cc) engine that I could use. Which one do you think I should go with?
TIA,
John

John, the one I built was overpowered with an OS 1.60 but did require some nose weight. I don't recall how much exactly, I think between 10 or 12 oz. The Sachs would be more than enough power and would probably be heavy enough to alleviate any tail heaviness. The BME would make it a rocket ship!

Chad,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly......I will go with the Sachs 2.0
I like flying my Warbirds in the scale manner, with a little power to spare.
Thanks again,

If Nick recommends a G-38 then it's gotta' be the right size engine for this plane!

I would like to try one.... If anybody has a set of plans, a cowl, or any other parts sitting around that is not going to make it to the building board, please let me know how much you need for what you've got.
THANKS!
You guys are GREAT! I have everything now except for plans. If you have an old used set, even if you have cut them up, it would work for me....

I've seen it flown with everything from a Webra 1.20 (roughly the same as the 2300) all the way up to a Webra Bully, which is about the same cubic inches as the BGX if I'm not mistaken. All of them worked fine. If it were mine I'd probably go with something at least 1.5 cubes or bigger just because you will need the nose weight up front and the airframe is plenty sturdy to handle lots of horsepower.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think the OS 1.60FX would be sufficient for an 18lb plane? Here are the specs on that engine:
SPECS: Displacement: 26.23cc (1.60 cu in)
RPM range: 1,800 - 10,000
Bore: 33.6mm (1.32")
Stroke: 29.6mm (1.17")
Weight: 930g (32.8oz)
Horsepower: 3.7 BHP at 9,000 RPM
I am also considering the DPM Blue Head 1.8
