Default RE: T-28 True 1/5 Scale

Got a bit more done on the 28, the last couple of days. layed up a cowl, first time I have done this all by my lonesome, this evening will pull out of the mold and see how we did. Also spent some time on rudder stab detailing, Here are a couple of pics of the vertical stab with the lightning holes in the tail post, same as the full scale. Used 1/32 ply, kind of complicated to get in, this should be installed before sheeting the vertical stab. Also got the horizontal stab glassed and sanded and made access hatches to get to the elevator linkage. can now install the horizontal stab. Finding all the parts and pieces to make a sliding canopy has taken a while. This is a continues rotation servo with a robotic drive to operated pulleys on either side of the fuse. Using different size drive pulleys on the same shaft will let both canopies open to different lengths. Based on my drawings etc, should work pretty good.

Claes, looks good. You may want to check with Lenny at Schindin on the rail spacing. I'm pretty sure I did that before drawing the ribs, but that was some time back, and he may have changed a few things now that he is actually building the gear. Looking forwarrd ot more build pics.
I have not got much done on mine as I have been spending a bunch of time working out the sliding canopies. As mentioned before, I am pretty sure I have the design worked out, still working on getting all the pieces rounded up. found quite a few of the items I need. Main thing now is a continues rotation servo that is standard size. Maybe someone that looks at this forum can help on this or know how to modify a standard unit. Preferrable Hitech.
Anyway keep up the good work

something like this?
http://www.servocity.com/html/hsr-14...s_rotatio.html

might have to talk to those guys for the best way to control it for a canopy. I guess limit switches would be the easiest since it does not travel a set amount then turn off.

It looks like servocity will modify just about any HiTec servo for continuous rotation for 20 bucks

No problem, make sure you show what you do with all of these parts and pieces. I have always thought that a belt/chain/rope drive for a canopy was the way to go vs. air cylinders but never sat down and really thought it out.

Last installation done on the flaps, finally got the fibreglass shhets so I could make the horn for the flap control. Installed the large Ball Bearing from Du-Bro.

Tomorrow I will put on the top skin and make the control horn for the ailerons and the installation of the servos(4) in the wing.

Got to get a bit of work done on the 28 between a bit of house painting. Epoxied the horizontal stab, access hatches for the elevator attachments. Also been working on the sliding canopy mock up. Building a frame that will slide as I need it, this is for proof of concept. here are a few pics.

Try Stock Drive products if you are looking for gears, sprockets, bushings, or any other sort of hardware. http://www.sdp-si.com/. Between servo city and stock drive the sky is the limit.

Got a bit more on T28 #2. Installed the vertical stab, and am working on the lower hinge. As you can see in the pic, this should work out very well with the pull pull on the rudder. I will have more final pics with the rudder removed which will give a better idea of everthing. Also in the pics you will see the mock up rear canopy. I want this to be sliding and have finally good a pretty good working rear track. The canopy has to clear the rear hump in the fuse, but also fit snug when the canopy is closed. The gaps from the actural canopy to the fuse will be made up with the external canopy frame. Will be starting on the wing shortly.

got a bit more done on the tail group. Been slow with helping others with rebuilds etc and a bit of vacation in there, oh not to mention work, you know where the money comes from. here are a few pics of the pull pull hook up, the elevator fairings that are removeable and held in with small 4/40 screws and the dorsel fin and top sheeting on the rear of the deck, haven't decided to do the sliding canopy on this unit yet.

ORIGINAL: johnnyo

I have redesigned the airfoil to a more user friendly one. The origional airfoil is scale and fully symetrical, this does not lend itself will to scaled downed aircraft. I discussed with Nick Zeroli and he suggested a 2412 airfoil which he uses on alot of their kits.
JohnnyO
Hi Johnny,
Could you post both the original scale wing profile, and the new 2412 profile for a comparison?

The website is up and running, your imput on changes or information needed will be greatly appreciated. As for the new build, kinda got back at it this last week, mounting the cowl and canopy frame, then it is on to the wing build. Check it out at: (link=http://www.scalercstuff.com) johnnyO's Scale RC Stuff.
Thanks

Default RE: T-28 True 1/5 Scale

Hey Guys, been following the thread and I have looked through it a couple of times now and have not found the answer to my question. Can anyone tell me the cowl size on this johnnyo's T-28 or more specifically if a MOKI/RCS 150cc Radial engine will fit? Johnny was able to get a Zenoaha GT-80 which shows to be about 10.1 - 10.2 inches wide per the zenoha manual and the 150cc radial shows to be right at 10" wide per the RCS manual. Just wondering if someone has tried to stuff a radial in or if someone could get the exact inside diameter dimensions of the cowl.

Thanks
Sean

The Moki 150 will fit with plenty of room. inside measures 11 7/8" one inch back from the nose ring. Weight is close to the GT80, maybe a bit heavier, but that's good as you will need the nose weight. I have got the flight videos on the web site working, just click on the one you want to view. You can also expand any of the pics by just clicking on them, clicking on them again will return to origional size.
Thanks for taking a look.

Back on T28 number 2, got alot of honeydooooos going, and the T28 has been on the back burner. another kit is out the door, encourage the builders to post build pics ect here and on the website. www.scalercstuff.com, johnnO's scale rc stuff. Made some progess on mounting the cowl and doing the canopy frame, still working on the sliding canopy, that is why the rear deck is still open. Here are a few pics, these are also posted on the website.
thanks
