Default Hawker seafury question

seems that I cant find consistantcy - is the inside gear door on the wheel leg sealed in interior green or the scheme of the plane - same question on the wheel well - I see both pics all over the place

Best bet is to pick a plane to model and then follow its color scheme to the letter. Remember, photo documentation is the final authority on what is correct. Take, or get, lots of pictures of the subject plane.

Laird , thanks for the comments but this plane is one of the most difficult to find info in , I will have to buy either warbird tech or squardren signals, online info seems useless . They show shots of differant planes (versions) so you cant tell if you modeling the same plane

A lot depends on which airplane you're modeling and when it was in service. If you're gonna compete with the model, then the best bet is find a well documented subject and copy it as faithfully as your skills allow...

The Seafury MK 11 . I am not going for exact scale but I like to do stand off scale as close as possible , so in other words if I m going to trouble of painting the wells , makeing doors ect , I might as well get them close to correct scheme .
Some planes are so easy -zinc chromate & your done - this one seems to lack materials in the US . Obviuusly you can find a ton on P51 , P40 , corsairs ect , but this one is difficult

LDM, if you post your question in the "Historic Aircraft" forum over at the Flypast Magazine web site I guarantee you will get your answer. Some very sharp gents that hang out there, many of them directly connected with the restoration and operation of vintage fighter aircraft. This is a UK based forum so British subjects are certainly well covered, give it a shot.

Hey Lou
Sea Fury is one of my favourite planes so I was determined not to give-up looking on-line for references. Try this link - low down there are some really nice undercarriage bay shots.

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.co...rd/walk649.htm

As it's a warbird restoration it may not be exactly as it was in service, but Duxford is a major centre for painstakingly accurate restoration work, so i would be disappointed if it was not accurate.
I gotta confess, I was convinced that the bays were Sky, but the U/C legs and inner doors are in Sky- the bays are quite clearly not, seems to be a chromate paint finish. Just goes to show, eh!

Anyway, enjoy the shots!
BTW what are you building?

cheers
Rick

Rick thanks a ton , great shots . I now can use the correct color , I agree that it is so confusing because I did see one with silver , one with white ect ect . It appears they are a light interior green

Yep, confusing for sure - but one thing to say, you will never have seen white bays on a Sea Fury in FAA service - that will be a Reno racer or a modern restoration reflecting a touch more of the owners preferences than authenticity!
BTW - the insides of the main doors on the legs are also finished in Sky.

Post some pics when you're done

cheers
Rick

Spad...............I noticed you are from Swindon Wilts................myself ex RAF was stationed at RAF Compton Bassett late 50's. Neighbour to Swindon Town. You can pm me.

I have the Hawker Sea Fury Top Flight 1/7 th scale, about to start building, sorting out the wood and reading the manual first. Had the kit for over a year, but too busy on other projects.

www.bobsairdoc.com

Bob Banka has several Sea Fury's to choose from with mulitple photographs of ONE particular aircraft. I have shot pictures for him in the past including several Sea Fury's and they all include overall shots and detail shots of the gear doors. Pick one that is a restoration instead of a Reno Racer.

Good luck...

Building my 2nd Sea Fury now, an awesome looking aircraft!

Bob Banka only sells prints from original negatives. THe best thing to do is call him directly and order the prints and he will mail them out to you. I don't think he has any photos that can be downloaded. His web site is maily for the catalog and information.
