Well I have both wing tips made ready to be glue on. I weighed the wing. As is in the picture it weighs 8-3/4 lbs. Not bad for 14 ft. So after the tips are finished I will most likely start on the ailerons. Thanks for looking!

Hi Tom,
I, for one among many, am thrilled to see this project off the back burner and returned to RCU for all to see.

You've been away so long that it seems no one knows you've re-started. After a while the questions will start coming in again. Of course I don't have any questions because I just visited you last week and checked it out. Are you sure it will go through that little window in the workshop?

Can't wait to see the wing atop the fuselage......it will be a whole different look for everyone that has been following the build.

Talk to you soon,

Jack

Howdy Tom,

Looking really good my friend. Glad to see you continueing as you can. My hope
for you is things will get better and you'll be able to take it off the market.
Like everyone else has said, this piece of art needs to be finished by you.
When I start my 1/3 EV, I'm hoping that it will come out half as good as yours.
Later

Del

Hi Del, Thanks and so good to hear from you. Knowing your building talent the D-8 will be fantastic! I'll keep working at my project as long as I can. Here are a few pic's of the aileron set up to start building it. Things are just slid together at this point, lots to do. Always thanks for looking you guys!

Here are pic's of the wood fluted filler that goes in front of the aileron. This was a little tricky to make, because it tapers in two different angles. Plus the flute tapers in size also. After I get two of these made I will make the hinges and horns. Thanks for looking!

Hi Proflooney, I made those fillers with my table saw, cutting most of it by free hand to achieve the taper. I have been watching your half scale triplane build since you started it. That is a AZM kit? How quick is he on getting things to you? Boy that plane sure is gonna be big and tall! I'm very much looking forward to seeing the wings mounted. Keep up the good work and good luck.
I have finished the two fluted fillers and now have to start to fit the hinges and horns and ribs to the aileron tubes. Here are a few more pic's. The control horns are from GTM the same ones he puts in his kits. I was the one who designed these horns back in the early 1980's. I showed Glenn these when he began producing kits of the Fok.D-8. They sure have done a great job so far. A little work but the end result is a scale outline.

Hey Tom,

They say that necessity is the mother of invention and you always seem to invent something that is just right. Great job!! I was wondering what you would come up with and those pieces look perfect. When will the plywood be in? That covering might be a 2 man job, no?
The 51 is coming along nicely.

Hi Jack, Thanks for watching the build. I drove all the way to Bob Broaders Hobby shop this morning to get glue and wood. He was closed! Takes an hour to get there. It really stinks that he is the closest hobby shop around. Another state! That sucked! Any way Once I figure out these ailerons I'll be ply wooding those first. Then I need to wait for the metal mounts from GTM So it will be a while before I get to covering the wing with the 3/32 plywood. I made those fillers out of white cedar, The shop smells like a cedar closet!!See ya

Here are some pic's of the aileron hinge and end tube areas. The materials are wrong, they should be steal not brass. This is a scale hinge application in which no one ever applies properly to there D-8's including GTM's kits. There is no doubt that the GTM D-8 kit is the finest in the world, and can be built to the highest degree of perfection as the builder wishes. With small modifications as this the builder can have the true scale application of the aileron hinge area. Normally everyone just puts the strap to the outside which is wrong. It was applied to a tube welded to a strap which went threw the filler piece and attached to the rib. This can be viewed on Achim Ingles D-8 builds page 23
Enjoy

Well I have built one aileron, now have the other still to do. I am pleased with the results, but yet have to plywood cover it before I can permanently mount it. Plus I have still to set up the servo area and cable connections. Can't believe how long it takes to build these areas in the wing. I know it is not much to look at but I'm trying to keep the posts fresh. I was thinking of doing a thread on the rebuild of my Fokker D-7 which was the very first model airplane to have the GTM printed fabric. I have a lot of coverage on it. With all the D-7's being built or will be now that GTM will have their 1/3rd scale out it would be interesting for a lot of people. Would you people be interested? I am having difficulty done loading my photo's for some reason, |I will try later. Sorry no pic's

My Son Nathan is keeping me company down in the shop with a little fun project of his own. Boy I remember those days!!! I told him when he gets the super cub finished I have about 10 rubber powered kits I'd love built! I enjoy flying those out in the yard.

I eagerly look forward to each and every one of your posts! So, yes, I'd definitely enjoy seeing any of the D7 construction photos you have. As you say, there's been a ton of D7 models built but yours really stands above the crowd. You are to Fokker model building what Achim is to replica building!

Hey Tom, Yes , post the D-VII build!! It will give you something to do....LOL. Really, what a georgeous plane.

Love the aileron. How are you going to wrap 3/16 ply around it, or will you use thinner ply?

Hi Nate, good to see you building too. It all begins with those beautiful little rubber power planes. Still one of the most rewarding types of flying!! Good luck and don't get your fingers stuck together.

Hi Guys
Well I finally finished framing the other aileron, I was out in the yard for a few weeks burning brush, That time of the year. So the wing is all framed up. Next I will be adding the wing mounts and affixing it to the fuselage. I am waiting on my hardware from GTM. After that I guess I'll start ply wooding the wing. I know these wing photo's always seem the same but I am doing a lot of work to it. I also weighed it, I believe it was 10.5 lbs. I'll be curious to see what it will be all ply wooded up, stained and varnished! Plus servo's and wire, and receiver ,plus battery. Oh boy! No to forget the switch and charging jack. And those big painted German Crosses!!! Any Guesses?
She's 14 ft. long

Today was a fun day! I took advantage of my son Nate being around and thought of trying to get the wing threw the window of the shop. Well It fit with 1/2 inch to spare!!!! Wonderful, now I have a way to get it out of the shop with out cutting a hole in the wall. Here are some pic's of the very first time the wing was held over the fuselage!!!! Very exciting for me, it's been a long time coming. By the way the model is still for sale. Thanks for taking a peek guys.

Hi Guys
I am looking for someone who is going to the Toledo model show from New England who could possibly transfer a 1/3rd scale fokker to someone for me. I am located in central mass. You will be payed obviously for this. So here is a way to get your gas payed for. Please let me know ASAP.
THANK YOU.

Hey Tom... Looks really good and sturdy. It is a hard thing to cover up all that wing work with plywood but at least we got a chance to see it before you do. Keep up the good work - Glenn

TKFokker,

She looks beautiful.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] I wish I could take her off your hands.

I've hear of guys cuttings holes in their basement walls to get their 1/1 scale homebuilts out. Pretty funny, almost needing to do the same for your RC plane!

Tom,
I'm glad to see you getting your second wind! Flying half scale is the bomb!..... I dont care what you have flown in the past...."Once you go half ...you will NEVER go back!. Well..... are we flying at Rhinebeck or not? That would be awesome to see two Half Scale Fokkers coming down the runway in formation flight! Keep us updated on your progress......And Keep up the outstanding work! Glenn and I are going to Deleware this year and if you need some "Inspiration" meet up with us and ill give you the sticks to the D6[sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Hey thanks guys for jumping in and saying Hi. Your inspirational words always help one continue on the building path. It's nice when you start to approach the end of a project like this. Still a long way to go but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel. Paul I'd love to fly that d-6 some day, that sure would be a treat. As for it flying at Rhinbeck this year, Not sure, But I'll try. Again Thanks all of you.

I've decided to install a receiver and battery setup in the wing so as to eliminate any wires from fuselage to wing. So I have built a box in the wing center. The door, or hatch will be underneath. I'm not sure about one thing though. Will the 2.4 receiver still work properly inside of a plywood box? Looking for advice out there. Should have hardware to mount wing by this weekend, I hope.
Always thanks for looking, Tom
