Here is just a tidbit of a pic. The actual builder and the equipment and set up of this model could not be from the same person. The model was built pretty good. Then it got this childish cartoon like paint job, the sevos mounted on the outside, and these hidously large engines, along with the guns being cut from thick piano wire and a 4500mil battery. No wonder it is a heavy pig! Those poor original aluminum cowls are all chopped up too.
It is in good hands now. I've already done some work to it. It has to hang for a while. Off to the Fresno qualifier this weekend.

Hello Maddingo:
I'm in the process of building a Royal P-38. Got the prime coat on , getting ready to paint the finish. I don't think I'll sell it. If you like, I can make and sell you a copy of the plans. If you're interested send e-mail to [email protected]. Making th wings of foam is a good idea. Wish I had thought of it before I framed up the one I did.

Just came across this thread and thought some of you like to see the B-17 I am building right now. It appears to be a fiberglass copy of the Royal/Maratuka. It has the same exact dimensions, so I am assuming a Royal/Maratuka was used as a plug for the glass parts. I have not been able to locate any info on this model, so this is all speculation on my part. It has a fully molded glass fuse, with foam wing and stab cores. The wings and stabs have molded glass covers to put over them, and the control surfaces are framed and covered with moulded covers.
I am doing a build log on RCG, since I am building it with electric power. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1417449

Wow! Electrics! That baby begs to have a cool sound system. Since there are a number of real '17s flying, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a sample of all four of those P&Ws running. There should be enough room in the fuselage especially since the electric system ought to weigh less than the ICengines. I think that's correct..right...electrics should weigh less?

Sound system would be cool, but alas, impractical in this model. The fuse is too small for the speakers and since the wings are foam, they would not make good sound boxes.
making good progress on the build.

HELP!!!
Fellas, Ive come across great P-38 plans with templates. Now people like PCK dont want to cut them for me. Does anyone out there know of anyone who cuts this kit. Ive never tried to cut my own kit before. If I duplicate the plans is it as easy as cutting out plans, super imposing on wood and then cutting?
I need help on this one.
Thanks.
Dave

I've got three flights on my new Royal B-17 now. It has those very big .40's on it now so I got 4 Master Airscrew 9x6 3 bladers to fly it with. It does very well, and the 9x6's are pretty close to scale. I got the wieght down to 14 pounds. The wing is thick and with over 820 sq. inches it handles the weight well. I am getting better with flying it now, meaning slower and more scale. The OS .40 LA's run absolutely perfect. No need for electric motors. Will get some pictures from our Independence day fun fly to post here.

Pictures! July 4th BBQ at club field today. She's going in for major refit after this. Flew both the Stafford B-24, and the Royal B-17. They both weigh the same 14 pounds. The 24' has 4-OS .15CV's. The 17' has 4-OS .40LA's. The 17' will go straight up and 3D with all that power even with the 3 blade props. The refit will include mounting 4- OS .15CV's. All eight engines ran perfectly today. As always. Gotta show up the Leckies[:-].

I love the Stafford B-24. As I told you before, it was one of the first multis of which I became aware and wanted to build one. I neither had the skill or the money to do so at the time in the mid 80s.

Great looking planes Corey. Btw, I got a great invite to go work on a Corsair restoration in Texas in Aug. Also been having fun with new CNC router.

Just got my plans and cowls from USWing at EBay today! Very nice. Just in time because I was going to start the rebuilding today! I for one am glad that USWing makes repo plans and parts for Royal kits!
I wanted to say that the Royal B-17 is a really sweet flyer even at 14 pounds. I hope to shave 2 pounds on the engine change alone. The OS.15CV's should just fit flush with the new cowls.

Here's a good way to ruin a model that is already built and flyable! I do it all the time. It is now just a junk pile. But, it will come back better than ever! I had to literaly rip a lot of the stuff out to make it "right"(my way). I have almost $1000.00 into this now, Yikes! But if I do not crash it it will last over 20 years.

Hi guy's I am about ready now to start some fibre glassing on the B17 with .6 weight glass any tips on using either epoxy or polyester resin.Seems we don't have as much choice over here as you do and the only good one from what I can see is made by Deluxe Materials they stopped doing a polyester resin but I have managed to track down 2 cans.So any advise anyone can give would be greatfully recieved.
