I thank you very much. On the original plan the retracts are mechanical. Considering the weight of the model (4Kg) and the simplicity of mounting maybe it's better to follow the plan. I found something ( For corsair FU) of the right dimension onli to be bended as per plan. CJM solution is very expensive(350$) and uses centurion cylinders that are very heavy for the model. Robart has got one pneumatic solution but is 1/8 scale and should be anyway modified.I have personally experimented the electrical solution ( sonic) but it is very delicate . If you do not land perfectly on the tarmac and you touch on the grass, you have to change anytime some spare to the gear!!!

A Corsair has rotating retracts while the Texan does not. Are you certain what you have found is suitable for the AT-6?

amilcar I have scans o the blue prints I can email you, but for some reason when ever I try to zoom in up closeits very difficult to read. PM me your email and I'll send you the plans.
If you need a cowl, there are some fiberglass reproduction ones on ebay.

Maybe the info about Corsair was wrong. I bought the retracts yesterday by a local dealer ( they come from Hobbico) and seem to match perfectly on te plan , they only need to be bended and cut. Thank you anyway for your alert.

I wanted to share my collection of the original Royal airplane paintings which were reproduced on all the boxes, I think the only one I am missing is the P38.
I have built many Royal kits and plan to rebuild my Junior Zero as I first built it back in 1995.
Keep them flying!

I used to own a Royal BW kit, sold it to that idiot on ebay Vince who is selling Royal stuff. I really regret being nice to that moron, but we all make mistakes. After I sold my Black Widow pristine kit for $175 to him, I won an auction he had for a Royal Corsair, make a long story short he smashed the aluminum cowl, canopy and some of the wood in the kit and sent it to me just because he did not like the winning bid of $205, then he closed his account and blocked me with his new account and started selling copies of the parts I designed for the Royal P-38.

My impressions of the Black Widow kit, it is not very scale at all, but with all the plastic parts it is not a difficult build. I've yet to finish mine, so not sure how it flies. I did make molds for all of the plastic parts needed, but I do not sell anything that I make anymore.

That Black Widow looks good from here!
I just wanted to say...WOHOOO!
I picked up a Royal P-38! This will replace the beloved one I lost a couple years ago. It has been a hangar queen for over 30 years.
A blank canvas, the posibilities! One thing for sure-IT WONT BE ELECTRIC POWERED!

Great idea! I have two sets! Then I'll need a third. I have three Royal P-38s in different stages. Drop tanks for all!

Dail that looks like a sweet P-38, very nice build you can tell a lot of love and work went into that. If I do a Royal P-38, and I probably will, I will make it electric.

I will have my Royal/Marutaka Black Widow ready for spring, it's coming along great, just lots of good old work! Thanks also to Firepower R/C for all of his help on this project. All 13 servo's are in, wing is basically done, just some sanding. Just need to finish the rudders and elevator and close up the back of the booms and she will be ready for glassing. You can see that I will have a full cockpit, it also has Rom Air retracts to keep it old school, just the way you like em right Dail!

Dion,
I know Brian Brunk (royallfarms) makes laser short kits of the royal kits. He was looking to do one of the P61 but needed some things including the plastics. He's a good guy. Would you mind if I passed your name to him. He is currently copying my Marutaka Rufe kit so he can produce a short kit of it.

Thanks, Ted

Luke, I am sure that your P-61 will rival ANY Ziroli P-61 as far as scale goes. Too bad it wont make any sound.........
By the way, I have heard those sound systems for electric models. I think the Eeeeeee of glow motors sounds better. What's the point of having a twin if an engine will never quit? I'll take that cobra snake tie anytime[8D]!

When I'm in my 90's and my knees give out then I'll go electric. Haa!

Dail, I guess you didn't look at the P-61 close enough! I like nitro also, but I think the Black Widow is a better plane for that set up. After going through all the work to build a Royal P-38 I would want it to last longer, plus I like quiet planes sometimes. You may have missed my Royal Corsair conversion to electric? If you did check it out, I want to get some better video but in person it sounds quiet but pretty cool.

We have similar flying styles, although I do not fly through trees! Never seen one of those TF Bearcats in the air, suck those flaps up after landing so you can pin the tail down sooner!

I'm really not into making parts anymore, I have molds for many of the Royal kits including all of the plastic parts for the Royal Black Widow. All of the plastic parts on my Black Widow were made by me from my molds, including the canopies. I may consider something, no guarantee but it's fine if you give him my name.

Oops! Sorry Luke, I read electric and saw red. PLEASE post progress pics here! I have a VQ P-61 way in the back under all kinds of stuff in the Boneyard. I'll get to that as soon as I finish all the other projects that have been on the build list for 20 years!
The T.F. Beacat died in 2006. Spun in. It was a very tricky one. I was too busy kicking rudder to dump flaps! Land to fast the drag from the wheels would pull it over on the nose. Land to slow and it would stall very sharp, drop on the gear and....nose over[:@]! Pull up a little too much in flight it would snap just like a Pitts. Keep the up and it would spin all the way down.
My Rare Bear is from the Top Flight. One of the hardest to fly planes that I have ever flown, (the F-105 was on top) OK enough about Top Flight. I have three Royal Bearcats waiting for landing gear before I go any farther.

Hello. I am interested in advice and building info on converting a Royal Stuka JU-87 to electric. Recommended motor/ESC ..etc. Battery setup. Looking to spin a 3 blade prop.

It hasn't flown and was originally set up for a ST G90. Seeing that it is quite tail heavy and has a short nose... I thought it would be good for an electric with heavy batteries to balance it. Not to mention the simpler operation. This plane has limited space for gas or glow to start with.

How is yours flying? Can you post some built pics?

Thanks!
