I finally tracked down an Oscar wing being spruced up and I have two excellent photos of the Ribs , wheel wells and also the knuckle on the struts are shown with retraction cylinders. The second pic shows the 2 degree forward sweep and associated spars. As most of you know the Royal kit shows a straight L/E. I had already cut the cores for the wing prior to this but to get the wheels into the wells, its a must to re-cut to reflect the 2 degree forward sweep and the landing gear is definitely parallel to the forward sweep. The actual distance from the L/E to the Landing gear was measured for me and its 7". I will wonder why Royal,Marutaka did not show this properly being it was a long lived Japanese warplane.

Here's my newest P-38 finally getting close to being finished, it's been a long build 10+years! but not all of that was construction, that's my problem! I have the attention span of a puppy in a room full of Tennis balls.
Going to cover with Ultracote chrome and use the Virginia Marie color scheme.
And no I don't build on the ceiling, for some reason the picture uploads upside down

Ol'666 Neat! One of my favorite Dogfights episodes.
I hate to admit for the world to know, but I lost number 4 on take off at a Scale Masters qualifier. Normaly there would have been just enough rudder to keep control on a normal take off, but I was making it as slow as possible and lifted off with minimum speed above a stall. As I cleared the end of the runway she made a perfect wing over straight into the ground.
Other than that I have about 75 flights on her in about a year's time with never a hiccup from the engines The engines are OS 15CV's. Let me tell you somthing about a Royal B-17, It should weigh no more than 12 pounds. If you put 4 strokes or .25's It's going to get heavy. That is when they get tricky to fly. Unfortunately The OS .15CV engines were discontinued last year. I would consider the Mecoa .18's but I have no experience with them. My B-17 will go almost straight up with the 15CV's at 14.5 pounds. I have NEVER flown it ever with full power. I use 50% power to take off and cruise with 30%. If your Mac Hodges then then stuff it with power and flip, snap, and hover it. I like making it look realistic. That's why its a model of a B-17!
In my town (Los Angeles) There are a group of guys that fly Hobbyking foamy B-17's. They are about the same size as the Royal B-17 and it is fun to fly formation with them. I am right at home with 4 perfect running glow engines as they plug in and whrr away.
There is another issue, If you install retracts as I did there is only room for 4 oz tanks. I get 11 min air time at cruise power.
I've posted this before here, but I think it is really neat, so here it is again. The Royal B-17 is the one with the flaps down a bit to stay with the foam 6 pounders.

Dosn't the box say .19-.25? But that was when the kit came out in the late 70's Those glow engines did not have the power of todays engines.
Darn shame the OS .15CV is out, best most powerfull and reliable .15 ever made. I have them on my Stafford B-24 also. In todays world of GIANT who would buy such a small glow engine?
By the way .15 size engines do not stick out of the cowls. So you won't have to butcher those rare spun aluminim cowls.

I long thought of it to be a bunch of BS that the royal/marutaka p-40 ever got into production but due to a photo i discovered by U.S.wing on ebay it appears that production did happen and he apparently has one! Now if only the rest of us could get a hold of those prints.

Right when I crashed my B-17 and needed clear parts, he stoped selling. I did get some quality stuff from him before. Too bad its all gone now. Because of USWing it was possible to build a Royal kit without a kit. Now this thread is full of "Please do you have plans, instructions, parts?"

I can make parts for several of the Royal kits, including the B-17 and plastic reproductions of the cowls. I also have molds for all of the P-61 parts, and traced every wooden part that was in the kit I bought. Man was that an awesome kit! It was very nice even by today's standards... tons of molded parts, huge beautiful aluminum cowls, and tons of die-cut wood. Before uswing was on the scene, I had plans many years back to revive the Royal line and was selling plans and parts on ebay similar to how uswing does/did. As a matter of fact, for a while he was selling copies of a Royal P-38 plan that was from me (easily recognized as I had rearranged them slightly to fit a narrower format). I then had a change of heart once I had created enough of my own plans, art, and products to become sensitive to the issues of copying and selling other's works, so I stopped. Now, I have relaxed my position a little bit recently on this (especially Royal kits, plans) recently due to the fact that these important pieces of R/C history are no longer available from their original source. Especially the parts, as in situations where legitimate buyers of kits or built models cannot get original replacement parts. These guys selling copied Ziroli plans on ebay are ultimately doing their hobby a disservice!
By the way Dail, how are those P-38 tanks doing? I am fitting a set to my Top Flite P-47 ARF .60 and they are huge on that plane, but scale. Several installations were done on P-47s in the Pacific theater and I wanted something a little different. Maybe someday I will get to my dream project that is stashed away: a pristine Royal P-38 kit with 2 royal .46s, a Luke Zoellner plastic detail kit and a one of a kind, fully assembled P-38 cockpit for it that was built & detailed by Luke himself. That is currently a mantle decoration.

I am embarrassed to report that some other projects got in the way of my Royal P-38F. I even got a very old P-38 airframe that must have been built in the early 70's due to the equipment that was in it. I have three and a half Royal P-38's now, and they will all have Fowler flaps, drop tanks and brakes! Your drop tanks are the BEST! I wish that I could help showcase them. I had to get my B-17 going again, And I am going to refresh my old red box T.F. P-51B, an old Cleveland Gee Bee Z, and a Royal Tripacer Jr. And probably one more airfame, an old Westcraft A-20 Havoc, before I get to my next Royal P-38.
I hope I life long enough to finish all my projects. None are GIANT and they all must be glow powered!

I think it depends on the area I seem to remember seeing more .19s then .15s. I haven't got a home for what I have but I may know some one who may have what you need, do you want me to check with him? He'll generally sell them on the cheap since he doesn't have much use for small engines. I assume it would need to be 4 matching engines.

I have been wanting the Royal Baron... you don't hear much about that one anymore. I haven't even seen plans of ebay for a long while.
Dail, could you share a little concerning your fowler flaps and brakes? Both are items I will have on mine.
