Default Build of WACO SRE - Vintage R/C Plans

I'm building the WACO SRE 1/6th scale from plans drawn by Sid Morgan (1982).

I began by photocopying the fuselage side template, which had to be done in parts and joining the pieces together accurately.

Next I stuck this to lite-ply and cut it out with a jigsaw.
Then I marked where all the holes should be and cut them out.

Next up was the making of all the parts that were to be stuck onto the fuselage sides.

Then I stuck all the required balsa to the fuselage sides.
And then, to finish the fuselage sides, added thin ply to the wing saddles.

Then I had to make the 6mm plywood formers.
This proved a little harder for my hand-tools!!

Some of the scale detail I want to include, is not included in the plans.
I want to include lighting, and the tailwheel isn't right...

The solution for the tailwheel was to construct my own tailwheel bracket which extended out of the underside of the fuselage.
See photos.

I then fancied starting on something else so made the fin and rudder.
(The rudder still needs finishing on one side)

Looks really good; you do very nice, clean work. this is a WACO I'd like to add to my hangar some day. I had looked at Sig's ARF, but figured I'd wait and build my own, and the Morgan plans is what I'll probably use. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the compliment!
Would love to follow your build. Are you intending on putting it onto the forum here?

Don't know if you want to wait that long. I've got a 1/4 scale L-19 build going on the Warbirds forum, and after that is a 1/5 scale WACO UPF-7, then a 1/4 SPAD XIII, then a 1/4 Fokker D-VII, then a Sopwith Pup, a Nieuport 11 and an SE-5a. That looks like.......oh, about 8 or 9 years, the way I build I have all these sitting on a shelf to do, and I promised myself that they would be built before I buy another kit.

Tested the fit of the bracket.
Soldered a piece of brass tube and a ball-link to the other end.
Fixed the screw with Loc-Tite.

Fitted everything together again and tested the movement.
The movement is very smooth.
I'm very pleased with it. I now have a strong, and scale, system.

Next up is making something to hold the servos.

Last night I installed the servos.
First I made a base on the left and right walls.
