I recently ran across the Dec., 86 issue of EAA's "Sport Aviation".
The cover photo is of a home built Reno racer "Tsunami" built by Metal Masters. It looks like a great plane to build.
Does anyone know of a kit and does anybody have any information as to the history of the plane after Dec., 86?

As I recall off the top of my head, this is what happened to Tsunami. The owner of Tsunami was flying the airplane home after a Reno race. During the flight a flap actuator engaged, deploying the flap. The airplane spun into the ground killing the owner and destroying the aircraft. I am not sure of the year. It was a beautiful airplane. Tsunami was the ultimate piston powered airplane. She was not a modified P-51, but an airplane built with the best of everything from the ground up. Visit http://www.pylon1.com/

My Feedback: (10)

Tsunami crashed in 1991. One of the flaps failed while on final approach in Pierre, South Dakota on a refueling stop.

I have built a few models of it, including a fiberglass version. I do sell plans here and there if someone wants to build the a balsa/foam version. I'm too busy to produce the fiberglass one and still need to do experiments with the prototypes.
I see someone found my little Tsunami site... http://tsunam.tripod.com
