Default Tissue Painting/Stinson Reliant colors???

Hello all,
I just inherited a beautiful 20-year old Stinson Reliant airplane. It has a wingspan of 59 inches. Does anybody know which kit this was? Also, it is covered in clearish-white semi-transparent tissue paper. Can I paint it? If so, Do I use a brush or airbrush (not that I have one)? What kind of paint should I use? I'm thinking of powering it with an O.S. .45 2-stroke, but I have bigger engines if you think it should be bigger, just say so. It has dual aileron servos, and was I think designed for a sideways mounted engine, so that not much sticks out the cowl. And it is missing the windshield and side windows.... any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Default Stinson

Your airplane is from the out of production Sterling Models kit. If the tissue is clean, brush on thinned clear butyrate dope then add your favorite color coats. Insure that the dope and paints you use are compatible. Don't add too much, you want to watch the weight. It is probably best to spray all your finish but brushing the first couple of dope coats is fine. For the windows, make some light cardboard patterns before you cut plastic. Search the web for pictures of the Stinson to get an idea of what they look like. Your engine selection sounds fine. FYI, it's the Stinson SR-10 model.

Have fun.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the help; I have investigated and even found someone's construction article! I've also picked out a color scheme, which is looking like black and red at the moment. Sorry for the picture quality, I spend more time taking pictures of the crashed plane (hopefully not with this one though!). -Andrew
