Default retracts a-1 skyraider (global arf)

Hi: Has anyone installed Robart air retracts in the Global a-1 skyraider ARF? I am tied of bending (breaking) the mechanicals in this plane

Thanks

I built the 60-size global skyraider several years ago and installed Robart 615's. They work OK, but the mechanism is extremely sensitive to less-than-perfect landings.

Thanks for the reply. THe gobal a-1 is really a 46 size plane, and mine is quite light, but still is rough on the gear when I land, mostly on grass.
thanks again

Mine is light as well, but I think the gear failure on the 615's has a lot to do with the lightness of their construction. The strut hinges are fairly flimsy, and I bent mine on an aborted take off. The plane never left the ground, and I aborted because of a steering problem. The plane went off the runway into a small sand mound. Both gear required replacement hinges. I'm generally unimpressed with the small scale Robart gear.

I think that the 615 rettacts are the ones that robart recommends on the website. Did you ever try the Robostruts? I am not reallybsure what they are but Robart makes a big deal about them?
Thanks for the information, I appreciate you taking the time to send the e-mail

Regards
David

Robostruts are machined struts that have a hinged lower portion that compresses like full-scale gear. They therefore have some shock absorption, but they do add weight. I don't think the problem with the 615's is related to compression, but rather it's a lack of strength with the retract hinges to lateral forces. Overall, I've been happier with Centruy Jet retracts in smaller scales.

I will try the website. BTW, would you know the best way to dig up a discontinued ARF like the global A-1 skyraider? I am new to the RC Universe website.

Thanks

You can always try Ebay. Also, there is a section on this site dedicated to classifieds.

Here is the retract number you need for the Skyraider.

35664 Global Sky Raider $230.00.

Price includes upper mechanisms, functional stainless steel struts, and complete air support system.

You can get them by going to www.centuryjet.com/webstore.
