Sunday is the day!!!

I will be taking the Waco to the field on Sunday for the maiden flight. I will have an excellent pilot on the flight line with me just in case my nerves get the best of me. Hopefully I will have 2 different people shooting video of the flight as well.
Sunday is supposed to be nice, temps around 70 deg with winds of 5mph or less straight down the runway. I hope the weather man is right

Later!!

Weatherman... right?  HA!  When has the weatherman ever been right?  He's responsible for my broken hip when he said it wasn't going to rain that day I rode my bike.  He said it would be the next day!  I woke up in the hospital that next day to a beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky!  Weatherman...  right?!!!  Yeah, right!

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.  I have a feeling it's going to be an absolutely beautiful day for you Anthony.  Looking forward to the video!

Take care,
David

Thanks Guys,
I am sure the maiden will go fine. The plane really does fly nice as long as the pilot does his job and I don't plan on making the same mistake twice. I am going to go flying Saturday for most of the day and practice shooting landings with my 30cc Stick which lands a lot like the Waco.

Anthony,

I few days late (well [:-] all right a week late)- Actually I just came back across this thread today. Hard to believe it's been 4 1/2 years since you started this thread.

Anyway, The WACO looks great. You can't tell that there was ever a repair made.

Thanks Rick,
Tomorrow is the big day. I am getting ready to head out to the field for a day of flying. My Contender and Stick 30 will get a good workout today. They are still calling for excellent weather here tomorrow for the maiden.

I put in several flights on my Contender and my 30cc Stick today. The planes and the pilot did just fine now if I can just keep my nerves under control tomorrow I should do just fine.

The Waco batteries are being charged now. I will give a flight report when I get home from the field tomorrow. Somewhere around 11:00 EDT tomorrow cross your fingers for me

Hey Anthony,

Good luck with your re-maiden............ Use your assembly and pre-flight check time to soothe your nerves and you'll do just fine. Can't wait to see some inflight pictures of your INCREDIBLE airplane.

Take care,
David

Deep breaths and repeat after me....  "I am an excellent pilot and this is just another plane.  This plane flies better than any I have.  Everything is just super!"

Good luck!  This is going to be great!

Take care,
David

Well where do I start[][:@][]

Do I have your attention yet The Waco flew beautifully. I was more than a bit nervous, the plane tracked well on take-off and a nice smooth climb out. After the initial turn I had my buddy input 4 clicks of up elevator trim and 2 clicks of aileron and it flew hand off. The lane tracks beautifully with no bad habits. After a few circuits and doing one loop I handed it over to my buddy to feel out in case I needed him to land it. He really liked the plane and said he wouldn't change a thing. After he flew it around and checked out the handling I took back over and few it a few more circuits and a couple practice approaches. One was lined up perfectly and looking really good so I shot for the landing. The plane took 4 bounces on the landing but all was well.

After a nice little break and lunch I fueled it back up for a 2nd flight. A few more loops and a stall turn then I handed it back to my buddy to figure out the best method for getting the plane on the ground. He shot several touch-N-go's. What seemed to work best on the landing was to flare out and hold it about a foot off the runway until it wouldn't fly anymore and just settle in. On my landing I came in a little hot as I wanted to be sure I didn't stall the thing again.

My wife shot a video of the 2nd flight. A guy in the club shot video of both. I will post the link when the video's are uploaded.

Here are a few still shots from the 2nd flight.
Later!!

I just looked at the video the wife shot and well it is marginal at best.
I will have to get it downloaded and see if I can splice enough together to get something to upload to Youtube. The guy at the field usually shoots pretty good video. I just don't know when he will have it ready.

Anthony, congratulations! Those photos make your Waco look like the real thing in the air. I'm sure you are very relieved that your plane flies correctly after such a major re-build. I'll bet your dinner will taste real good tonight. Well done!!! Now your wife will let you start on your Spacewalker!

Thanks VJ,
I was very nervous about putting it back in the air as you can imagine. I actually had full intentions of letting my buddy land the plane on the maiden. The plane was flying so well that I felt comfortable enough that my nerves settled down a bit. The 3W engine sounds really good on the plane as well. I hope the sound comes thru on the video.

i 3m my plans to the drywall and they are removeable when done
also works good for scratch builds. im able to draw my plans out on the table as i go

My table is 5X14. solid marble base with 1" sheet rock. I have an over head projector that projects the plans on the table.. Who can beat that

I have trimmed and spliced the wife's video together and managed to get approx. 5 minutes of usable video, not great but usable. I am in the process of uploading to youtube now. I am taking the wife out to dinner so when I get back I will post the link.
