Anthony,

Congrats!! Sorry about the Cub. I buried my Extra 260 on Friday screwing around too close to the ground, so I know how you feel.

One comment: If the idle is coming up during flight it is usually because the engine is overheating and producing a lean mixture, particularly with a new engine. Be careful with your hard earned money.

Best,

Lonnie,
You will really enjoy your Waco, they do fly nice. I was really impressed how it slows down for the landing and the flare is very predictable. No tendancey to drop a wing.

Bob,
I do plan on adding baffles to the cowling especially after adding the dummy radial so i get maximum flow over the fins. I am pretty sure the engine is just breaking in a bit. The idle is getting smoother as well. I will definetly keep an eye on the temps.
Later!!
Anthony

Firstly, sorry about the Cub, these things happen from time to time. Now for the important bit Congrats on the succesfull maiden of your Waco. Glad that it went so well for you, not that there was any doubt. Its always nice when on a maiden no trim is required, just goes to show how well the plane was designed and more importantly how well it was built. Cant wait to see the vid. Very happy for you

Congrats

Arno

If it was any other day I would probably be really mad about the Cub but today oh well.
The Waco more than made up for the incident with the Cub. I have to say it was a bit disturbing to look at the Cub then throttle up the Waco. Not something you want to have happen right before a maiden. I was having fun flying the Cub and was feeling very comfortable right up until it went in.
I need to build me a small sport plane to throw around for just such ocassions. The more I look at the Cub it may have met it's experation date. I have always had a Cub in my hangar. I will set all the parts aside for a few weeks and then take a good look at it with a fresh mind.
Later!!

Anthony,

Congratulation for your WACO first fight. After all that long work, she finally went in the air. You can be very proud of all that effort. Sorry for the Cub but now the WACO era start...

Anthony,

Congratulations on a successful maiden. Sorry to hear about your old Cub though. Where did you wind up with your center of balance. I'm trying to keep records on this information. I believe we nailed it though.

I am still waiting on the video, just talked to my buddy and he is having issues trying to put the file on CD. He said he loses all the sound. He is going to bring the camera over and D/L to my PC and see if we can get that to work.

Anthony,
I am the guy that won the award at Top Gun in 2007. That was the first plane built from the ARM kit back then it was Gennisis. You will enjoy building the plane but most of all you will enjoy the way it flies. If I can help you out just email me. I am still flying the Waco it is four years old, still love it and it is always a hit where ever I fly it.
Good Luck

Anthony, If you can get the video down loaded to your computer I think I can get on the phone with you and talk you through doing what is necessary to put it on YouTube. I have lots of phone minutes.

Thanks Guys,
I am uploading the raw file to YouTube as I type this, it says 55 minutes to complete. There is some garbage that needs edited out and I will try to do that tomorrow night. Marlene is having surgery at 7:30 in the morning. I am uploading the maiden flight 1st. The 2nd flght is broke up into 2 segments. As soon as I have the link for the video I will post it.
Later!!

Well I uploaded a video,
I thought it was the complete maiden but it was just the 1st half. I will upload the other video's tomorrow. Unfortunately this isn't the best of the video's but at least you can see it in the air.

Hey Anthony

It has been awesome to watch your journey from a box of wood to this. You have every right to be very proud of what you have done. The videos are awesome and relieve a lot of concerns I have had about mine. Guess I over think things a lot. I truely hope you enjoy the WACO. It is beautiful. Especially in the air

Anthony, I'm sure you are still savoring victory. That was a magnificent job that you did going from box to well flown airplane. Now after you get a chance to check it over thoroughly you can add some more details and dummy engine. Looks like you must have balanced it well. See you at Bomber Field.

Give Marlene my best wishes for the surgery.

Thanks Guys you cannot imagine how relieved and happy I am to get the maiden out of the way. I need to reduce the elevator throw some and the ailerons a little as well. The plane is very responsive to inputs but also very stable hands off. I did have one of the mufflers start coming loose after the 2nd flight, a little thread locker should take care of that. I did loose one cowl mounting screw. The rest of the plane looks good. I will give it a good pouring over later this week. BTW: the dowel rods and wire ties did wonders for the flying wires, now to make a proper set of javelins.

Ken,
Marlene is doing fine, she might get released tomorrow but most likely Wed.

I am really looking forward to Bomber Field, I want to get the Waco out for 2 more sessions so I can dial it in and get the feel of it before making a fool out of myself in front of a big crowd. I will wrap up the remaining details before bringing the plane to Texas.
Later!!
Anthony
