Default Foam rubber for vintage tires?

Hi guys.
Williams Bros vintage wheels/tires have always seemed very heavy for electric models. The tire rubber seems to contribute most of the weight to the units.
I've read of vintage wheels hand made using some type of foam rubber for the tires. I can turn the wheels. Can someone tell me what kind of foam rubber is used and where I might find it?
Thanks,
Thom

Default Foam rubber for vintage tires?

Hi, Thom. I have an old book by David Boddington describing making scale wheels and using "Sorbo"as the core or white foam which can be cut & shaped. The book was "Radio Contril Giant Scale Aeroplanes" 1986. It gives detailed account of moulding the tire with lettering.
Cheers

Default Vintage wheels & tires

Thanks Reg. I'll try to look that up. Shall I assume that the publisher would be here in Britain?

Default Foam rubber for vintage tires?

Argus Books, Hemel Hempstead
ISBN #0-85242-941-X
Its possible that the process could be altered for your intended usage. I would look into some of the building insulating foam or refridgeration insulating foam for your application. Some of it can be turned into shape easily.
Good Luck!
