Default Hanger9 P51 D Mustang 1.50 size ARF

Hi there,
Has anybody bought and flown the new ARF Hanger9 P 51 D Mustang 1.50 size. The reason I ask is that I am planning to buy one and I am not sure which engine to use.

Default Hanger 9 P51 ARF (1.50 size)

I just got the "kit" home and am more than impressed. I talked to my sources, and was sold on the install of a Saito 1.80 for the model. The instruction book shows visuals for this powerplant, and although it will not be the ultimate power source, I feel that it will be more than adequate.. I love this model... It is impeccably covered, the instructions are written so Joe Novice could not have problems building this thing, and I feel sure at less than 15 # it will fly prefectly. The only problem I have is that there will be a bunch of these. exactly alike, sitting on the runways soon..I considered stripping the model entirely and redoing it in RAF colors....but I couldn't do it... I am going to add invasion striped to the bottom of the wing, and change the graphics a bit...

This kit is a winner!

I got a great deal on one last night at my LHS. The fiberglass pieces are very thin, but other than that, it is a top of the line arf. I have a saito 180 in a cap that I may use, not sure yet. I would really like to put a gasser in it without spoiling the nose.

I, too, will be altering the graphics a bit just so it doesn't look like everyone else's (H9 already sold out of 'em)

Thanks for the information.
Yes I agree it will look better with the invasion strips. And yes it will not be very long before their is a hole squadron of them at our club.
Do you think that an RCS180 or ZDZ40 gasser would fit?

Hey guys:

What are you using for a 5" spinner? I can't bear to absorb the cost of a tru-turn, and I can't seem to find a 5" colored spinner.

Thanks for the help....

( am going with 3000MA niMH battery pack....)

Default Working on my Mustang 1.50

Hi:

You can buy Dave Brown's Vortech Spinner. 5" parabolic is $65.

I am thinking of using RCS 180 Front Intake engine.

My cowl seem to have been shaved off too much as it has a gap of 0.17" when one side is flush against fuse engine bay.

Default Hanger9 P 51 ARF

I found the Vortech 5" spinner, and was also advised that it was not the correct spinner for a P51, but I'll use it.... How is your construction coming? I have hit some knots in the branch, and am awaiting servos and on board glo for the Saito 1.80...Overall I am happy, but they slapped this one together in a hurry... My cowl seems to be OK....

Default Engine Choice

I've decided on MVVS 2.15 with 20x8-20x10 prop
with Dave Brown 5" Spinner

I am currently have a headache in fabricating a custom muffler as none fits the bill.

Bisson can custom make inverted Pitts for $150 but I will still have to reshape firewall which I'm reluctant to do. I will probably end up making one. Gotta learn to braze Aluminum.

something bisson is willing to custom make for $150. but require firewall alteration as you can see.

red_z06,
Why don't you get real fancy and make some scale headers, just like the real thing. It might not be that hard if you can rotate the cylinder for rear exhaust. But you would have to cut holes in the firewall.

2stroker

MVVS engine is 1 pice crank/cylinder just like most glow engines.

P51

the problem with 2nd option is that once you trim back the firewall, there is nothing to cover up the void unless i decide to extend the cowl to cover it up. 1st option allows me to keep everything. it just takes little more work to fabracate.

Incase a mishap happens and i have to replace the fuse, i prefer an option where i can reinstall the setup without having to do surgery on new fuse.

It is a shame that you guys can't use the engine this model wsa designed for. The Saito 1.8 drops right into the bay, the muffler exits dead center from the back of the cowl, and all you see from the bottom are tiny cutouts for the valve covers. I will send you pics if you like, I just can't seem to get the drill down to get them on this site.....

I noted on your post that you have the 180 in a cap. I have the same engine in the Cap 232 Briettling 1/4 scale and have not flown it yet as I am in the process of making a new cowl for it do to the previous owner carcked it on nose over and tried to recover and messed it up. How does this plane fly considering all things equal and will it do 3D/ Appreciate your responce.

Seems like you know quite a bit about the Hanger nine 1/5 scale. I know this is an old post but need to know how the plane flew. I am concidering the Moki 2.10 for mine. I already have one installed in a Sig Extra 300XS. and it performs like it is supposed to. Thanks.

T28Ron:

I ripped out the original gear and replaced it with 1/2 strut robart 631 retracts ( very very solid ). I flew it with MVVS 2.15 gasser and it few pretty good and stable but was missing something.

It turns out that full scale speed of P-51 is around 437mph. That translates to about 88mph for 1/5 scale bird.

I then installed Desert Aircraft DA-50R with 18x14 Prop.

In my field (BCMA in NJ/NY area), there are few 1/5 scale P-51Ds ( hangar-9 with saito 180, world models with sait0 180, my previous with mvvs 2.15 gasser). However, none received the praises my new ( reborn) hangar-9 mustang with da-50r received.

It can fly around like a pylon racer or slow down for low speed pass. It does one awesome slow roll across the field.

If just flying around is what you want, any engine will do. But if you want HOT performer that turns heads as it carve a turn, I suggest using DA-50R.

BTW, the engine comes with stand-offs that are perfect length required for the mustang. You need to chop back part of firewall to fit the muffler though.

Red: I am satisfied with installing the Moki 2.10 Single cylinder and really do not want to invest in another engine. I basically wanted to know if the H9 P-51 would perform the way I expect it to, fast and be able to do the 3D. If I had to I would by another type P-51. I have been on RCU and a whole lot of research and the best P-51s are definitly not H9. The consesus is for the low end money the P-51 they are recommending is Top Flight and for the no money problem the Dave Patrick,The Petena, World and the Pica. I haven't been able to find anyone that has had the Moki 2.10 in the H9-51. Does that help you?
Sorry to ask this but I am not sure if you are the one that had the H9 P-51 with the 180 Moki in it. Thanks.
Ron.

Has any one ever flown the hanger nine P-51 1/5 scale with a Moki 2.10 the saito 180 or the moki 180.. I am thinking about installing the Moki 2.10 in it. The fellow that I bought the plane from stated that the plane really did not perform like he wanted it to with the 180 Saito in it. Could be the pilot!!! help.
Thanks. Ron.
