Stearman Balsa Kit
Anybody know of a full balsa kit for a Stearman. Nothing too big, around 65 to 70 inch span would be perfect. Been trying to get hold of one by Sterling but can't find any. Any ideas? Thanks.

Royal / Murataka also produced the PT-17 with a span of 68".A better quality kit than the Sterling one in my opinion.

rcphotog,
Just as I posted in 2010, the "bay" usually has a couple of Sterling #FS-20 Stearman PT-17 kits up for bid or sale. The wingspan is in the 65" - 70" range. Expect to pay $150 - $200 or so. I won one of the FS-20 kits on the "bay" a few years ago.

I would love to find this kit to add to my collection. I have two Sterling FS-20's (one in the old larger brown box and one in the newer and smaller white box). Significant differences between the two. I have almost decided to buy the Lazer-Works kit and build it out.

Hi Gumppy,
I do not have the Royal / Murataka kit the their Stearman PT-17 either. However, I do have 4 or 5 Royal kits. I do have the Sterling kit #FS-20 of the Stearman PT-17. The brown box with the aluminum cowl. Sounds like the Lazer-Works kit would be the way to go. Both, due to the lack of the Royal kit and, perhaps, not wanting to build the old Sterling antique kit. An early 70's issue of MAN had the Sterling FS-20 kit as it's cover along with the real PT-17 painted alike.
