RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
They seem to be close, but you get over it about the time of your second
flight. This field is a joy to fly at. A good spotter helps out a bunch.
Just got to load the trailer and head out. Should be there tomorrow afternoon.

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
I ran across some sketches of a powered glider that Fokker experimented with
somewhere around 1915.
It was way ahead of it's time in that it had a very aerodynamic fuse. and a folding
prop.
From what I gather (and it sounds crazy) the prop was driven by a pedal like that
of a bicycle. The idea was to first tow it up to altitude and as it drifted down, the pilot
could then pedal it for a while to gain more flight time.
The idea was to have a good silent observation platform.
Pilots were drafted from bicycle raceing clubs as they were the most physically adapted
to such vigorous ventures.
Although somewhat successful under what had to be the most desireable conditions,
the program was scrapped after a couple months and about 12 cyclist.......
So here's my rendering of that interesting aircraft the Fokker V2.5
I hope it qualifies for the ODP
Guard dog optional

Reporting live from the flightline at ODP.
Been on site since Thursday afternoon. The 1/2 Fokker D-6 flew this morning, right after the thunderstorm that blew through
at about 6am.
Right nownwe have a strong crosswind to both runways but its not stopping the flying. Sam Parfitt is up right now with his
1/3 scale Nieuport 28. We just had a 1/3 scale Sopwith Trip land. Took a little body english to make the landing but he made
it now problem.
More later.

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
Just waking up after driving home last night. This was my first ODP and I had a blast. Got to maiden my plane and hang out with a bunch of great people. Everything was a total class act here. I'm ready to start planning for next year.
Thanks again,
Martin

The van is unpacked... the planes & equipment are put up now... What a great event! Good flying & good times! (RC Simlulator night, Movie night, Pig Roast, wow!).
The Ohio Dawn Patrol crew put together one heck of a fly-in, you could tell it was a team effort. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make it a great event. The WWI national flags on the entry road add a really nice element to the theme of the event. The weather was good & the field is a great place to fly. I really enjoyed this fly-in & now it's time to get geared up for Hoosier Dawn Patrol!

Roger that Sir Percy, it was crazy hot on Friday... Let's not anger the weather gods though... We'll need them on our side in September.
By the way, nice updates to your website,
Greg

RE: OHIO DAWN PATROL 2010
This was our third year to attend the ODP, and it was grand. Arrived on Wednesday and left Sat night. We had to leave d/t Rusty's granddaughter being hit by a truck back home. She was flown to Children's in Columbus. She is OK, no broken or fractured bones. Really beat up with cuts, scrapes, and bruises. She will be coming home soon. Thanks for all the Prayers and support. Our camp site was well shaded and we had electric. The HOT shower was a great surprise with unlimited HOT water. Can't say enough about the hospitality. The Cincinnati Boys really know how to throw a party. It's more like a family reunion, with a WWI Fly-in as the icing on the cake. The food, and evening entertainment were top knotch also. We are making plans to attend the "Hoosier Daddy Dawn Patrol" the weekend after Labor Day. Hope those Indiana Boys take a few pointers from the ODP and it will be GREAT too. See ya in a few weeks... Bear

Martin- Glad you had a great time! Hope our 'disfunctional ODP family' didnt scare you off for next year! I really like your Alby!
Greg- Your Sopwith Pup looked great. As usual, your flying was off the hook. I love that 'pop..pop..pop..' And yes, you did shoot that much, so either pull back your trigger finger, or buy a bigger tank!
Sir Piercy- Thanks again for coming to our ODP event! Your Nieuport looked awesome. Pictures don't do it justis. No pun intended, Martin... ok, maybe a little. Too bad the ODP company plane only lasted 7 minutes on the Nascar track, I would've like to mix it up with you and your SE 5!
DAVE....[X(][X(][sm=tongue_smile.gif]- I mean David- Sorry for my brother-in-law, Gary, announcing your name wrong. But what do you expect from someone who has worked at the zoo for the past 40 years...and lives in Indiana... ([sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif])
Bear- We were sure relieved to hear about Rusty's granddaughter. Thanks for the update.
I wish AMA didnt screw over Sir Percifield with his HDDP date, because I was really looking forward to having the same fun in Percy's back yard! Unfortunately, the dates now conflict with Rhinebeck, but, if I know my engineer buddy Greg, he will design something from his pocket protector and paper clips to give Rhinebeck bad weather, which would reroute us to the Hoosier Daddy Dawn Patrol. Paul,
Necessity is the mother of invention... I'll get to work on that paper clip-based weather machine & whip up a mean Noreaster that should cover upstate New York. If the paper-clip fails, then we'll look forward to seeing you & your crew next time at Hoosier Dawn Patrol 2011!
From Wikipedia....
"Hoosier (pronounced /ˈhuËÊ’É™r/) is the official demonym for a resident of the U.S. State of Indiana. Although residents of most U.S. states typically adopt a derivative of the state name, e.g., Indianan or Indianian, natives of Indiana never use these demonyms. The exact etymology of the word is unknown, but it has been in use since at least 1830. According to Bill Bryson, there are many suggestions for the derivation of the word "Hoosier," but none is universally accepted. Historian Jacob Piatt Dunn, Indiana historian and longtime secretary of the Indiana Historical Society, noted that "hoosier" was frequently used in many parts of the South in the 19th century for woodsmen or rough hill people. He traced the word back to "hoozer," in the Cumberland dialect of England. This derives from the Anglo-Saxon word "hoo" meaning high or hill. In the Cumberland dialect, the word "hoozer" meant anything unusually large, presumably like a hill. It is not hard to see how this word was attached to a hillbilly or redneck."
Fascinating.

I second everyone's comments! It was a great time! And my complements again to the ODP folks for a great hog roast Saturday night. Man I was stuffed.
Didn't fly as much as I'd planned with the hot temps, but enjoyed each flight I did make with the M1c and Fokker EIV. And I was really happy to provide the entertainment late Saturday with my micro Cub dogfight with the barn swalllow. (Swallow 1-Mike 0)
Really happy to hear Rusty's daughter is okay.
I've just started going through all the photos I took (600+), and got a few really good ones that 1'll post or link to later this week. But here's one I particularly like.
Propnut's 1/3 Sopwith Triplane.
