Sorry I can't really help with a definite colour reference. I just used the documentation I had, and mixed up some red to suit.
The artwork showed the red having green streaks showing through.
You could ask at some specialist forums like
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...c.models.scale

weathering
Yea Jim I saw that good thread. But the streaks on the green wasnt weathered it was created that way as camo. I tried painting the green once and drybrushing some streaks on it but never got an acceptable look to it.
thanks anyways

Agreed, I just thought the techniques might be useful in re-creating this effect.
I was looking at a replica that's hangered nearby. The pictures of it looked authentic, but, when I saw it up close, it looked ruddy awful.... like they'd added, but not mixed, some brown to the paint, hung the plane from it's nose and let the paint drizzle I wonder if this is true of the real ones???
I've got some pictures here somewhere, I'll see if I can find them...

All of you folks need to come and join us over on the WW-I modeling page. It is primarily a plastic site but if I can get more rcers over there the both hobbies will benefit.
The standard Fokker factory scheme for the F-I/DR-I was turquoise and dark green applied with a 8 cm brush that was dipped in the paint then pulled across the fabric in repetitive straight diagonal lines until the brush was dry. Then it was dipped again and the streaking started over. Although written descriptions indicate that this applied to both the blue and green there is little photographic evidence showing the blue streaking.
As to MvR's DR, which one? He flew at least 4 possibly 5 different aircraft. If you're taking 425/17 his final flight, There is no photographic evidence of its true configuration. Even in his autobiography Manfred only refers to it as "little red". It is generally agreed that the red is very dark, similar to US insignia red. The favorite combinations are
-Solid red all over, black crosses w/ white outlines
-Red top, blue bottom, outlined crosses, red cowl and wheels white rudder.
-Red top, blue bottom, white field behind the crosses, white cowl and wheels, white rudder.
And finally there is strong speculation that the national markings should be solid square crosses not the curvy flared crosses usually done. An order from the high command came out in March to change the markings and since MvR was the group leader its' only logical that his bird(s) complied with the order first.
Another side note that if all the supposed actual wreckage from the Red Barons aircraft from around the world was brought together you'd have enough parts for three aircraft.
There is a sub line in this that there we other fascinating DR-Is over MvRs little stable. VonTuchek's all black machine etc.
Good luck, and the fiddler's green thread above is probably the best source of color three views of this topic. Get some 90 pound card stock and build a couple, it's fun!!!

I had pretty good luck with brushing different mixtures of latex with a 2" brush.
As stated DR1's came from the factory with the steaked finish created by the brushes used, the underside was left a pale shade of blue, they were then personalized. Mine is modeled after 404/17 flown by Hauptmann von Tutschek.

Check out the Rhinebeck Aerodrome. They have a flying replica in different colors. The Bloody Black Baron's scheme is used a lot here in the New England area.
Also some pics at their website www.oldrhinebeck.org

Red Baron
It is also funny to see so many all red Red Baron planes. Most of Richtoftens planes had red wings and the green streaked fuses. Only 3 of his planes were ever all red and they didnt last long. I got the numbers of the planes somewhere in my bazillions of aircraft research stuff.
