CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Hi
I just about to start on CD-ScaleDesigns 1/6 SE 5a and need some good clear drawings of the metal parts ( radiator brackets and landing gear and outer metal parts) Steve ( smcouch77 ) did some for his 1/6 SE5a but I have not been able to get on to him . I'm going to use Solsrtex covering ...do I get the natural or linen thinking going with the natural color myself . what do you guys think . I,m still unsure what plan to base this on yet May go with a good old aussie pilot . Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
I'll be using the Solartex Natural on mine. Both the antique and the linen are too yellow for British aircraft. But that means you're going to have to think of some way to "tint" the natural so you get a sort of off-white cream.

RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
thanks Don
I will order the Natural Solartex . off-white cream mmmmm I will have to work on that .:eek: Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Hi Greg,
Looking forward to your build. Teus |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
I am almost ready to start mine as well. Just received word from Chris that he has shipped my phot etched parts. It will be fun to watch both you and Don. Post lots of pics if possible. Now if I could just get the scale hinges on the DRI finished....

RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
We where also waiting for your build report Gary ;)
Looks like whe will have a lot of SE-5a fun this winter :D Teus |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Tues Are you looking for the build report on the DRI?
|
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
So that makes 3 .
Good on you Gary looking forward in seeing your build to . I may have to get a set of the Replicraft plans to get all the metal parts drawings . It just so hard to them to get them from Australia have to add about $ 70. for a postal check. and by the time i get them is plane should be finished . Replicraft plans don't take MC or PayPal [&o][&o][&o] Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
OK I made a start on the SE5a
While waiting for the kit to arrive (should be here this week ) I started on detailing the Vicker's gun . Both the guns, Williams Bros Vicker's and Lewis need some work done on them . The Vicker's has a shovel looking attachment on the front . http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../Vickergun.jpg Still a lot more work to be done . Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Can I recommend that you just upload the photos directly to RCU. It's going to be a LONG build if we keep having to click on links to see photos. ;) If you prefer not to upload here, then I think it's also possible to embed the links so the photos show up here.

RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Ok
Thanks Don |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Need a bit of help here
I'm moving the gun sight to the new position . http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ickergun2a.jpg The ring that the gun sight is attached to is only 2mm wide . The gun flash pan I used #0 pan head screw The head of the #0 pan head screw is too big to use on the gun sight . I need a smaller headed screw . Does anyone know where I may find a 1mm screw . The kit did not come this week :( :( may have go and shoot DHL in Brisbane :). Oh well, I hope arrives next week. Greg |

RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Greg, the model car guys use very small screws. You can search that large online auction house for Pocher. There's a guy in the UK that sells screws for Pocher model builders, but he doesn't seem to have any listed right now. Apart from that I found this here
[link=http://cgi.ebay.com/Nickel-Plated-Brass-Simulated-Hex-Bolt-Pocher-Models-/370426795940?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item563f28 57a4]nickel plated hex bolts[/link] |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Thank you
I found some Brass and Stainless Steel simulated screws / nuts / bolts and miniature rivets [link]http://www.scalehardware.com/[/link] Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
If those places don't work out, try www.smallparts.com and see if they have an 00-90 sized screw. Would that be small enough?

RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Thanks Bob
I have ordered a load of screws from them . may arrive after Christmas. Just got back from my flying clubs Christmas party . One of the members in the club is going to convert a ASP FS61 4-stroke glow to a Gas Engine for me. He has already done several glow Engine to Gas Engine converts for club members and all run very well . I don't know if the ASP FS61 4-stroke will be to big for this plan ? Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
I'm going to be using a Saito 56 in mine.
|
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
I was thinking of going with the Saito 56 but if the ASP FS61 fits in I would like to use it with the convert
The guy had one running at the club today and boy it sounded so nice. It only used under 250ml's fuel in 3 hours I was there . |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Don Here are the specs for the ASP FS61
SPECS: Bore: 24.8mm Stroke: 20.6mm Displacement: .61 cu in, Practical rpm: 2,000-12,000 Weight: 15.5oz Prop Nut Size: 1/14-28 Length: 91.5mm (3.60") (from backplate to front of drive washer) Length: 120mm (4-11/16") (from backplate to front of crankshaft) Height: 121mm (4.76") (from bottom of engine to top of head) Width: 52mm (2-1/32") (mounting hole centers-side to side) Width: 25mm (15/16") (mounting hole centers-front to rear) Width: 42.6mm (1.68") (crankcase width neglecting mounting flanges) Do you think it will fit in the SE5a ? Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Teus has an old Saito 52 in his and it flies well. But he said he'd prefer on of the Satio 62 (same exact size as the 56). I already have the Saito 56 (from my deceased Legionnaire), not to mention the Flair 110mm wheels and the Vickers and Lewis gun kits, so I''ll just stick with the 56.
On the plans, measured from the bottom of the engine mounting brackets to just under the surface of the top deck is about 85mm. The Saito 56 fits, but just barely. |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
ORIGINAL: abufletcher Teus has an old Saito 50 in his and it flies well. But he said he'd prefer on of the Satio 62 (same exact size as the 56). Teus |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Teus
The ASP61 is $99.99 US from hobbycity.com It has to be cheaper than a 2nd hand Saito 62 . I just ordered one today if it fits I will use it if not I will find a plan it will fit .:D:) Greg |
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
Grover1 - So where are you at in your build? I just received in the mail my photo etched parts yesterday from Chris so I think I have everything to get started. I know that Don is still busy with radiators so he is not ready. I hope to begin right after Christmas which will give me a few more days to study the plans and figure out how to post pictures. Should I start a seperate thread or can I just occasionally jump in here?
|
RE: CD-ScaleDesigns SE 5a
I'll probably get started over the Christmas/New Year's holiday. I've been collecting accessories and wood (for my "short kit").
