NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very Exciting news!!!!! Mark and Dave from BUSA stopped by as we had some buisness. BIG SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!! They brought me a pre-pre production kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be able to get started later today. I will post pictures. Guess what? It's drawn in CAD. How about that. Mark has moved into the current age:-) He tells me it will be available next year. Toss up whether before or after Albi. They will have something at Toledo. I am pretty excited about the plans as they have an undercambered airfoil and touches such as laminated outlines on the tail surfaces. Pictures to come.

Wow, I hadn't even heard a single rumor of a 1/3 DR1 in the works...

I was just HOPING the Albatross would be announced soon.

I am in line to get one of the first production kits.......I am using my Hoosier Dawn Patrol Balsa USA gift certificate that I won in the pilot's drawing at this year's HDP.

BALSA USA IS THE GREATEST ! Their support of all the Dawn Patrol events is unsurpassed.

I am glad to see that you are among the lucky few who will build a proto-type.........please get all the bugs identified so that Mark can get them worked out before I get my kit. hahahah

I was just thinking the other day that BUSA should do the tripe in 1/3rd scale. After losing mine this last september, The 1/3rd is very attractive and I may wait for it's release. It is still not a huge airplane in that scale, and with BUSA engineering, it should be an easy build. Can't wait to see this one. Great news

Just like the gang at Balsa USA. I was hoping for a 1/3th scale Albi. Oh well here comes another DRi. to my build collection. Dave did they mention anything about price($).

Keep in mind the DR1 was already a kit, so enlarging the existing one would be no big deal. Just like the DVII. The Albi is a whole new design and a fairly complicated one as well. I am sure just the manual will take them quite a bit of time to author. It has been posted that they will both be released pretty close to each other time wise. Tough to please everyone. The guys in my club want the Albi in 1/4 scale. Maybe that will come later as well.
I am ecstatic with the offerings from BUSA. I see absolutely no reason to be complaining here. I remember a time when there was nothing being offered.

Yeah, its just great they are releasing new things!

It shows the demand is there, And there is a quality to their kits that keeps people building !

Just here thinking about the new family member for Dave and the crew at BUSA. We can all agree it is good news. But here on the other side of the fence us consumers; what about  1/3th or 1/4th scale  Plafz D.III or D.XII. No doubt I'll end up purchasing one and why not. This just might be a wake up call for Glenn at GTM to finally release his Albi. I'm just thinking out loud guys.  Things are shaking in Northern Wisc tonite. Good Luck to you Dave and the gang at BUSA.

Congratulations Balsa USA! The wide range of WWI offerings continues to grow... Eventually (I imagine) they'll have every tractor plane modeled & then they'll have to move onto doing kits of the pushers! I can dream can't I?

Actually, that explains a lot about quite a few original WWI aircraft! ;)

Dave, it may be crazy but it just might work! I actually bought the guys a round at the '03 Rendezvous banquet just to stimulate conversation around a DH-2 kit. We gotta keep planting that seed & watering it with.... a beverage of the consumer's choice. I figure another several years or so of "market research" & that baby will be ready for production! I just don't think I can wait that long....

???????? They already have done the DVII! Maybe they could do a
DVI as well? Then all of the best will be covered! :)

I am not sure what plane Steve was wanting? I do recall a couple years ago , I was JOUSTING back and forth with some guys (all in fun) about whether Balsa USA should build the Albatross, or the 1/3 SE5a next? I wonder if it was Steve?

It is surprising the 1/3 SE5a isn't already available.. I am not sure how many people like that plane, but I have two buddies that do..

Having had a little trouble with a test flight on my 1/3 pup recently. Its NOT the way I want to make room for the ALBY !! :)

I know Balsa USA doesn't just hand out there sales numbers, but it would be REALLY interesting to know how many 1/3 DR1s and Albatross go out the door the first year?

I think part of the problem with the SE5 is that it just isn't sexy, a fact reflected in its nickname, The Flying Tractor. Add to this that the color schemes are limited. Also the SE5a was really one of the more technologically advanced British aircraft and to model one properly really requires a lot of details. By comparison the DrI and DVII are relatively free of "details."

While it's good to hear that BUSA is doing a 1/3 scale DrI, I hope that this doesn't in any way affect sales for the GTM 1/3 DrI. One would hope that they are just two entirely different modeling markets with two entirely different price ranges.

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know whats Ironic is that my buddy is drawn to the SE5a because of the big square radiator, he likes the utility factor/tractor of the plane...

abufletcher 10-30-2011 07:53 PM

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I was building I came to love the "lean, mean, all-business" look of the SE5a. Actually, the front end almost looks like racing car of that era. But unless the builder puts a lot of work into those front end details, it ends up looking very plain. Or just plain ugly. The original Pup was sort of an exercise in simplicity itself and so models of Pups (or DrIs) don't have to be that detailed to still look the part. IMHO, the "uglier" the aircraft, the more important is the detailing...and the more fun it is for a scale modeler! ;) Besides, it's hard to get excited about an aircraft than only came in PC10. :)
