Globe Swift plans
Hi Guys,
I have been looking for scratch plans to build a Swift in 1/4. Have not had any luck at all! Does anybody have this size plans? Email me at [email protected] Thanks. Wayne. |
RE: Globe Swift plans
There was a guy who had a 1/4 scale design with a goal of providing the design in kit form. He even had a prototype completed or close to be completed but it appears he has dropped the project. I believe his last name was crawley. I have also had an interest in the Globe Swift but haven't been able to get any traction with the project.

RE: Globe Swift plans
I have also been looking for a Kit of the Swift with no luck. I also tried making contact with the person with the 1/4 scale kit in process, no luck yet. I will try calling him. But I am also a little interested in this guy in Sarasota, FL. since he is close to me here in St. Petersburg, FL..
If I cant find a kit, then I will settle for the plans and fiberglass parts from the guy in Sarasota. So either way, I will call them both and let you know what I find out. But still, I would rather have a kit since I dont have a workshop and all to build from plans. So if you hear anything, please let me know. My father owned a Globe Swift N80606 back in the 70s. I recently learned it crashed in 81 killing both. http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=9509 He is almost 80 now and doesn't fly but would love to see his old plane again. I believe the person you are referring to in Sarasota is the late Corvin Miller. His Globe Swifts won a couple of Top Gun events. Recently his releatives sold those planes here on RCU. I built my quarter Scale Swift from a set of 1/4 scale Cleveland models plans. These are scaled up rubber plans that are really only good for their outline.

Thanks for the info, I think I will try and call Rowley and ask about his plans.

RE: Globe Swift plans
Cleveland Model and Supply has them but they are enlargements for rubber power. I am using them for a 1/6 RC version. I had to re-contour the fuse formers for alignment but not a 'biggie'. The fuse compound curved sheeting (planking) is done. The rest is flat wrap. I'll make a cowl plug to make a mold soon since the weather has warmed up for pulling parts.

RE: Globe Swift plans
I had a long talk today with Bob Rowley today about his Swift kit. He still plans to put it into production one day. He has, as he told me, some jigs to build for the "pre shaped skins" for the kit. His wife is ill and that is taking some of his attention away from this project. But as he put it, he has too much invested into this project to just let it drop. So some day there will be a premium 1/4 scale Swift, complete with dash details, cowl, belly pan, fin fairing, and such. The price range he is talking about will be in the $400 to $500 range. I was thinking the same for a premium kit of this size.
I also expressed my interest in a lesser size that more people would be able to afford. Mike |

Here are some pictures of one that resides at a small private airport just south of OKC, OK. It is in pristine condition....
Thanks, Eddie |

Mike What was Bob's thoughts on a smaller more affordable size? I think it would be a great candidate for a 1/5 or 1/6 size aircraft, I know I would like to build one. I wsa on Bob's email list for when the project was completed but he put it on the back burner a couple of years ago and I didn't know why. I'm sorry to hear about his wife. Mike C. |
RE: Globe Swift plans
Well we talked so much about everything, I dont recall his reaction to the suggestion of the smaller Swift. I dont think he will any time soon, he seems to be in no big hurry to get this one out the door. I do remember that his last name is not Rowley, I think that is the name of the place her works.
But when the kit is done it will be very complete, even with shaped skins for the fuse. |
RE: Globe Swift plans
Is he selling printed copies or a CAD file of his plans now? I wonder if he would consent to having someone purchase a copy and then resize them to 1/5 or 1/6 for personal use? I prefer to buy a plan from the copywrite holder and getting permission to resize before taking any action.
It is a pet pev of mine. There are too many supposedly "nice guys" selling plans illegally owned by RCM, Airplane News, kit manufacturers, etc. and modelers keep buying them. I my book these guys are still thieves hurting our hobby and the modelers who support them are receiving stolen property, yes legally you are guilty and can be sued just like the recording industry sued the Napster users. Even though you paid for the plans they are still stolen. In my opinion I think this and other forums should attempt to shut these thieves out and us hobbyists have a moral and legal responsibility NOT to buy illegal copies and report those selling them to the forum and the copywrite owners. Read the news, other websites are facing multimillion dollar lawsuits for copywrite infringement and website like RCUniverse could be next if they don't take action. I would hate to lose my favorite forums because they got sued out of existence without having deep enough pockets to fight the legal battle. |
